Default Looking to borrow a transmission jack in Montreal

Time to change the clutch in my '87 924S so I'm wondering if I can borrow a floor transmission jack for awhile. If not I will likely buy a cheap one to sell later on.
Might be interested in borrowing any special tools too if that is possible (triple square sockets for instance).
I hope to start next weekend or shortly after.

Thanks

The tripple square bits are available at Canadian Tire, Part Source or even at Princess Auto. The PA ones might be iffy quality. PA also sell a floor transmission jack. Just saw one yesterday.

Is that transmission that heavy? I used to do VW beetle ones with just a hydraulic jack. (note: I'm old, we are talking about type 1 beetle). You might be over thinking this.

The triple squares are on sale at princess auto for 4$. I have a set of these and as long as you get the dirt out and seat them fully they should do the trick.

They have the transmission and differential in the back like the 928 so it has to be heavier than the beetle transmission you worked on.

Beetle had diff, trans, starter, and most of the rear suspension. So I doubt it.

The nearest Princess Auto is in Ottawa... so I'll check out Cdn Tire. There is a local supplier called Buytools that has what seems to be the same transmission jack as Imo000 mentioned at PA for the same price... $200.

I once changed the clutch in my girlfriend's Pinto without a jack... used a piece of nylon rope tied around a 2x4 on top of the transmission tunnel, but that was over 30 years ago. At my present age I'm going to do it the easy way!

That would be paying someone else to do it.

On your back for a transmission is a bitch!

Good question... the one I saw on the Cdn Tire site doesn't look like it would fit under the car because the handle looks like it would be in the way. Seems to me that the 924S/944 has a bit more space between the bumper and the transmission, ie the center of gravity of the tranny is pretty well between the rear wheels.

Anyone else tried this solution?

Just a regular floor jack should be able to get you what you need. PA also sells a transmission jack adapter to put into your regular floor jack. They have a website and ship.

HERE FOR THE LAZY OR GOOGLE CHALLENGED

I decided to buy this transmission jack locally...

When I'm finished in a month or so I'll think about selling it.
