So, I've gotten in touch with detailer to come to my place to do 3 stage paint correction on my BMW Mcoupe. with couple of years under the hood, I've had lots of swirls from car wash, tar buildup from trackdays and what not.

As I am very very picky with paint condition, I did not want just any averge detailer to do "paint correction" on it. I've found one detailer who is trustworthy and skillful. We set up the date and he came started work on Saturday morning. He completed his work next day lol. Results came out so amazing that my neighbor who acquired '13 -Carrera S wanted his done.

He wanted to get rid of all the swirls that were from "detailing" from the dealership (it is a brand new car and it had a lot of swirls from improper car wash) and use Opti-coat to completely cover the entire vehicle.

My detailer came and completed what was asked. Pictures speak for itself.
I should make it clear, below are finished after pictures(except for foam cannon shots) not before.

FYI, Pictures are not in order,

He washed and clayed-Polish-wipedown with 50/50-Polish again- 50/50 then foam wash again

To be fair though, doing this to yours and your neighbors "brand new" cars, how bad could it have been to begin with?

actually, because of the color and improper wash plus winter driving, it left quite a bit of swirls on the Pcar. Not only that it had couple spots of deep scratches that detailers had to wetsand it down beforehand.



As for my car, it is 07 so it had lots of swirls lol. I will actually upload my car's pictures as well.

Sorry, I'm confused because your pics show a 991 not an '07 997 and would not the dealer be
on the hook to deliver a new car in good condition?

I certainly wouldn't be paying for detailing on a new car that cost over $ 100k

Mine required 3 stage paint correction, and his cs, just one step polishing in preparation for Opti-Coat.

You can't just apply opti-coat, the surface has to be 100% swirl free hence why he went with one stage polishing even when it is a brand new car (although his car had a lot of swirls from driving though winter, improper washing).

The point of this thread is that detailer did what he was paid to do, and opti-coat came out great with out any high spots.

Of course you wont do a full 3 stage polsihing on a brand new car, but opti-coat on brand new car helps a lot.

Last winter i did a 3 stage on my 993 and then a 2 stage on my 2006 997, both followed by Menzernas Power Lock sealant. I have the Flex and all the "stuff"

You'd be surprised what most new paint looks like by the time it gets to the customer. The Porsche dealers "detailers" usually leave much to be desired. A final polish with a micro polish (like Menzernas SF4500) usually results in a flawless finish and then you can go with a last stage sealant or carnuba.

Was never satisfied with the results from others so did it myself. Costs a bit upfront but after that the supplies last for years

+1. A few of these detailers are really good but I prefer to do it myself too. Even my first try was pretty good and with a bit of practice you can do a great job. All you need is some blue clay, a Porter Cable 7424, orange and white pads, Scratch X, polish, micro polish-sealer and a final stage sealer....carnuba if you have a lighter colour car. Oh yes, and don't forget to start off with a wash by a bikini clad beauty!

I am not sure why you wouldn't pay for a detail of any car, no matter the cost of that car, and whether its new or not.

Since the cars are most often 'detailed' before delivery, there stands a high chance that these jobs are not done with care due to high volume, smaller hourly rates and reused dirty pads/rags/whatever.

I would certainly clay a new car if it needed it. Unless the car is delivered in an enclosed box, there is a good chance debris and what not would settle on it in just through the delivery process and then who knows how well it is cleaned/detailed at the dealer.

Some new cars require a clay because they sit outside for extended periods before delivery attracting all kinds of contaminants. Mechanical car washes create swirl marks. Black is a nightmare.
