Or do what I did.....went to the states, picked up a 30lb can of R134a and a set if gauges for $250.....and have been filling all the cars in the family for a while. Would be nice to have a vacuum pump to but so far it hasn't been an issue. Refilled my TDI 2.5 years ago and it has been blowing cold ever since, the 996 got a charge a month ago. Both cars had the system emptied because the engines had to come out.

It looks like it has been leaking from one of the soft lines going to/from the compressor. And actually now that I think about it I remember seeing oil below the hose on the belly pan last year and just thought it was oil from my leaky OPG. Still going to get it filled with dye and some coolant and maybe if I'm lucky the leak will let me get to Alcoa and back with AC.

If not, you can pick up cans of 134a in the states with filler hose and gauge for around $20 and top it up on the go. Usually 3 small cans will fill a car from empty. Get some as a back up for later. That stuff is worth its weight in gold up here in the middle of summer.

She's blowing cold. I will have to get a leak lite to look for the leaks, but she's good for SITM.

If you can't make it to the States some of the Truck Stops along the #401 carry R134A, if you are passing or need to get gas check 'em out. There is one in London on #401 near the #402.

Thanks, the AC tech said he thinks my leak is small so I should be good for the trip. Good to know about the truck stops just in case.
