Rob,
Is that your car? Can you confirm that the #60 car is one of the two cars imported to VW Canada in 1987 as test cars for the upcoming 1988 Rothmans Canadian Turbo Cup series (36-38 more cars were imported in '88 for the RCTC series)?
There were other 9 Cup cars imported to North America in 1987 that went to PMNA (porsche motorsport north america - which was Al Holbert at that time) to be raced in the SCCA Escort Endurance series.
The two Canadian cars, #60 and #61 in full Rothmans sponsorship, were raced by several drivers from the Rothmans Cup series (Bill Adam, Scott Goodyear, Spenard, Deacon, Bye, etc) at the 24 hours of Mosport in '87. Other than that, I don't know much about either of the cars - but it appears that is one of them in the pic you posted.

Hey Oddjob,
Not my car but wish it was. Car is #60, wish I remembered al the details, worked on/got it running around 5 years ago. Wish I had more photos(harddrive crash)
From what I remember, the car is one of the Escort Endurance cars. One claim to fame is that the car was never wrecked like the others.??? And it shows in excellent shape. The owner is a cool guy, also has a 7.1 GT3RS, and has owned it I believe since it retired from the series.

$34.5K is quite a steal if it is in decent shape

Unlike the Clubsports imported for the '86 Escort season, which were all raced hard and some wrecked pretty good - only two of the cars imported in 87 were raced in the full Escort series that year. So several of the 87 cars do not have significant race history or major accident damage.
Kyle - agree, there has been several of the Canadian RCTC and one of the US Escort cars advertized at and above $100k in the past few years. So this selling price does look like a good deal for what appears to be a relatively original condition cup.

The car in question was raced by Heimrath, Caruso, Smilovsky but is low mileage/use compared to many of the other cars in the series. It has returned home and is now sitting in my garage... I'm storing it for the owner. It will be raced in the historic series at Mosport mid-June by Caruso and Heimrath will be there too

1987 Porsche 944 Turbo Cup Car # 07 of the 11 Escort Cars update
I have since purchased car #07 of the 11 Escort Cars from Mr Douglas Brown.
I have done more research and have heard that the #06 and #07 cars where flown to Canada direct from Germany for the 24 hours of Mosport and as mentioned in full Rothmans Livery. The #06 car Raced as #60 came in 16th in the Race and my car #07 Race # 61 came in 5th place.
Drivers ( Canadian LeMans Team ) Bill Adam, Scott Goodyear, Richard Spenard. I also see my car placed 3rd on the pole to start the race. At the end of that 24hrs Corvettes placed in the Top 4 and I hear they kind of cheated with Larger Fuel tanks. Below is a photo I took of how the 07 car looks today.

A few years ago they had 944 turbo as featured car at vintage races at Mosport. There were about 6 or 8 of the original rothmans cars there. I may have pics and will look some time. there are a few around and footage is available on you tube. Cool cars and some cool stories of cheating (boost control in mirror control). Must have been a blast to compete in this series. I think at least one car used to drive to the races (no trailer).

I believe yes some of the 38 or 39 or so 1988 Rothmans Turbo Cup cars that raced got beat up pretty good.
My car in photo is NOT one of those 38 or 39 cars and was only raced in the 1987 Mosport 24 hour race but for a few dents on front fenders led a very pampered life. and the went into a private collectors hands for 10 years in Canada with some Driver Education weekends.
Now here in NY its retired to a street and Show car for the weekends Summer months.
The prior owner brought this 1987 Turbo Cup car #07 from Canada to NY back in 1997. 23 years ago.
He did a light restoration and car and it remains in Concours condition as seen in photo.
