I bet if Autotrader charged a couple of bucks for every listing they'd eliminate 99% of those scumbags who try to scam poor innocent folks looking to buy a good used car. Heck these guys even try to rip off the sellers, my little sister and her new husband just bought a new car and posted their old one on Autotrader and got the same scammer email from two completely different contacts.

priced right for something hit and priced to sell. Nothing special about that engine vs a 02+ 996 m96, IMS issues and poor cooling that causes scored cylinders on bank 2. Just lipstick on a pig.

Ok, I'll do it. Just sent this:
Is this still available? Why such a low price? Has it been in an accident? Can you please send more pics and a carproof report? Thanks.

I tried playing with a scammer two weeks ago who contacted me about my rental property. He/she claimed to be in Sweden. I sent him some bogus forms, with official Government of Canada emblems trying to phish his email password - under the guise that the government requires property owners to configure the email settings where ever internet is provided with the rent.
The line went cold.

I find this very frustrating as I've been shopping for a car for a long while.
50% of the good cars are scams.
Kijiji and Autotrader both make it sound like they care and want you to report the scammers. It doesn't matter how many times you report them the ad stays up.
It's all about the hits to create advertising revenue.

Agree. just finished helping my son buy a car in the $15-20,000 range and I was surprised at the number of scammers operating in that level as well. Unfortunately, it turns you off somewhat from considering a private sale vs. dealer.

I can't find the original ad I posted on Autoscamer - oops - Autotrader but here is a reply I got back from them yanking my ad - yet leaving all the Nigerian ad's up. I see nothing has changed since 2010...
FYI: I emailed back to them: Go f**k yourself.

Description: If looks could kill - this car could. In fact, just like the other low ball ad's in here, this one too is fake. If you email me I'll give you all sorts of excuses about why I'm selling this car so low in price. Don't worry because I'll tell you all about how you don't need to meet me when I ask to see the car and how I'll ship it to you and hold your money with a third party until you are happy and have the car. Of course it's all an offshore scam that no one wants to do anything about and it is up to you to find this out the hard way. Does the car in the picture look great? Yup, it's a fake picture, I don't own it, it's off the internet. Yup, go ahead and contact me via email - which is the only way I allow you to contact me. Ask for Torontoworker and I'll set you up with my buyer beware 2007 GT3 'special' rip off offer. Thanks for playing.
