Porsche 991 at DFC

overall the car is larger in every way, but it's hard to tell (i know it's lower in height, but also hard to tell).
on the inside is where you can discern the larger size. interior room is up quite a bit and there's lots of headroom. the angle of the dash also gives more feeling of roominess and doesn't make the high center console feel intrusive.
the doors are much higher, this is where you get an idea of how porsche made the 991 look so similar to the 997. the doors are higher, wheels larger, and wheel arches larger - but are in the same 997 proportions so you can't tell it's bigger unless they are side-by-side.
no complaints about how it looks with the exception of the rear badging and the from LED lights not being lined up. the sunroof is a bit weird - i would prefer no sunroof. i'll see if i can get a test drive this week although driving a 2012 c2s pdk vs. my 2007 c4 manual will probably be insanely different and hard to make direct comparisions.
switchgear seems very solid, better feel than my 997 (which is almost 5 years old). interior materials are average for porsche but not as nice as some other luxury cars. surprised there was power tilt and telescoping steering wheel. an unnecessary item, imo. it worked well though, intuitive.
summary: they are going to sell a lot of these cars.

I drove by DFC last night and had a look in the window. At first glance, you really wouldn't know it from a 997. I can't say I noticed the size difference, but then, we just stopped out front and looked through the front window. The bulbous front headlights looked pretty bad in most of the pics I've seen, but in reality don't bother me at all. I do like the restyled rear, though had no complaints about the 997 styling.
IMHO, the 991 is a bit anti-climactic. I was hoping for some more changes to the design. Most generations of the 911 are fairly radical departures from the previous models, design-wise, except SC to Carrera and 996 to 997 (though the 997 corrected the flaws in the 996 design). I was hoping the next gen would be more like the 964 to 993 evolution. Hopefully the 992 will be that.

I saw it in Detroit for the autoshow and frankly I don't think it looks much different than a 997. I really don't like the spoiler treatment though...
I'm sticking with my original plan...get a 991 GT3RS in Maritime blue when it's available. Three or so years to save won't hurt either;-)

Nice pics.
I like it but I would not want the sun roof and I would take off the rear emblems. The center console seems stupid and large in a tight space and given it is so large they should have put the window functions on the console and not on the doors so that can't get wet from rain when your forced to drive at the track with the windows down.
I think from the front side profile that the 991 looks more like the shape of the 996 widebody. The engine/trunk area is less basketball shaped then the 997.

it actually reads 911 on the back, unless the pictures deceive me
That's a first, isn't it - except for special editions. That's a significant branding change, whereas before you were supposed to know it was a 911.

The next 991 will feature the "improved" 4 line description that many Japanese cars have adopted....bragging rights to the list of options they have purchased for their 911:
P O R S C H E
911 Carrera 4GTS
L I M I T E D E D I T I O N
PSM PASM SP DS AHS ERF T

Saw it in the flesh the other day. It looks okay, but anyone not familiar with Porsche certainly wouldn't know the difference between a 997 and a 991 model. Personally, I was more interested in the GT3 RS 4.0 they had in the showroom (London)

This is very clearly for the Chinese market. Young friends of mine that live in China associate Porsche with the Cayenne and see the 911 like how Lexus drivers see the LFA (cool, but not relavent). There's model awareness required in the emerging markets that Porsche is addressing.

They have one in Toronto too. Either they'll be snapped up during bonus season or the 4.0 is a market flop...
