This is very clearly for the Chinese market. Young friends of mine that live in China associate Porsche with the Cayenne and see the 911 like how Lexus drivers see the LFA (cool, but not relavent). There's model awareness required in the emerging markets that Porsche is addressing.
I like all Porsche 911s - just like I usually have an eye for brunettes with curves! (don't ask me why I married a slim blonde - lol)
Seriously, though, the best thing about the 991 is that it will drive the prices of the 997s down. By next year, I expect to have my Orient Red 2009 or newer C4 or C4S w/ PDK...
Well, as much as I like it, at $228K it's a bit pricey, and they are not discounting. I wouldn't say it's a flop, but it's a small market at that price.
It's a totally emotional purchase...the last Metzger engine and that matters to an incredibly small percentage of Porsche customers which is an incredibly small percentage of car customers.
But you're right...not a flop and I'm sure those cars will eventually sell...at a discount;-)

With all the accolades the 991 is getting, I'd rather wait for the 991 GT3 RS than dump over $200K on the 997. Just MHO.
Although I'm not really feeling the interior or exterior styling of the 991, I'm sure it will grow on me, and I think the GT3/GT3 RS is going to be incredible.
