How about this? It's in the US but it's so cool.

Sharpman's suggestion in the Q5 is a good one. But is it more spacious or useful than an A4 Avant? I'm asking out of genuine interest. I do have a thing for wagons.
A4 Avant is a good one...the new ones are quite a bit larger. I doubt it's any less useful than a Q5...I just like the crossovers and I'm tall and find them easier to get in and out of.

Geoff...looking forward to the follow up. Curious to see the house (if that's what the story's on) as my wife and I are considering the same approach for our family...tear down and build something contemporary.

I hate to simply jump back in to ask for help but I'm in need of some advice.
I'm looking to purchase another car for my family and have been looking at 3 options:

2007 Audi S6
44,000km, 2yr warranty. asking $48,200

2008 MB CLS 550
70,000km, 2-3yr warranty. asking $45,800

2006 BMW M5
63,000km, no warranty, asking $39,900

It doesn't have to be these specific cars but they're what I'm currently looking at so any opinions, advice or guidance would be appreciated. I'll be driving it all year round to supplement my current '05 C2S.

Many thanks,
Geoff

Of the three I'd go with the S6. Not because I'm an Audi guy but the trunk is huge and the rear seat is a lot more usable than the CLS'. That said, CLS550 is a great drive. Surprisingly nimble and with great steering. S6 has that wonderful V10 though...

I'm just flat-out petrified of a used M5.

Thanks for all the input guys.

@ggrace thank you kindly. I have a good connection to Pfaff Audi but will reach out for the BMW contact of I fall in love eith the M5 during the test drive.

@biobanker I totally know that car. We've waved at each-other a few times. Actually, do you go up to the soccer dome on Curity Ave Friday nights? I take one of my kids there. I drive a gt silver 997S, black wheels, aerokit. We should absolutely hook up on a Sunday. But first I need to get my *** out to the Saturday meets! Do you go?

@jasonintoronto thanks for the info. The Audi is a tip - I'm really looking forward to trying it.*

@Ronan. Thanks Ronan.*

@Nine11 that is crazy. I didn't know such a thing existed. Fugly though IMO.*

@Sharpman. Everyone here has made me feel the same way about a used M5 (without a warantee)

Geoff - Yes, thats me up at Soccer! We are there Friday 6-7:30. I remember seeing you, your kids and your smokin' car there once. Only seen your car there once tho. If you see me at Soccer on Friday (I will be there) come over and say hi.

Ive been to one of the Sat meets - I brought my 7yo son.

And so starts a Beach Chapter.

Agreed, that out of the 3 choices, the Audi would be the most civil from November-
April...but an E60 M5 is just SAVAGE ~ if this is your route, I'd look at a 2008 and
newer.

Have you looked at a Cayenne GTS? I think they're in the late 40s now...Might be a
nice mesh of utility and fun factor....and they look pretty amazing.

I test drove the CLS 550 tonight. I really liked it. It was super clean, and incredibly solid. On sport mode it felt much firmer and smaller than I expected. I also figured it would feel sluggish, but that engine is very very strong.
Issues: The trunk wouldn't open without a key nor would the passenger side doors unlock with the passive entry (they worked with the fob). Those things would obviously be addressed before the purchase, and even covered under the warrantee but it certainly didn't give me confidence in the electrical system. Still, I loved nearly everything about it.

I drive the M5 and S6 tomorrow. Looking forward to it!

@BioBanker - I won't be there Friday - My dad has been picking up the kids lately. I'm sure I'll see you in the hood.

@_boman - I briefly considered a last gen Cayenne GTS or Turbo but the prices I've been seeing are in the 60s.

How about this for complete insanity:

http://www.autotrader.ca/a/Volkswage...o/19_4727611_/

2005 VW Pahaeton with 40K for $13,000!

Those CLSs were great...fast, dialed in automatic gearbox and looks like a showcar...

Who in their right mind would buy a Phaeton?

I drove the S6 today. I liked it, but didn't fall in love with it. It's fast, but deceivingly so. It's incredibly smooth, which likely makes it seem slower than it is. The transmission, a tip, was great and the noise is delightful from that V10. That said, I'm not sure it felt any sportier than the CLS 550, though it was much roomier.
The left rear quarter had been resprayed (the dealer told me the car had a $3000 job done on it, so this would have been where that 3k went.) There were a few scratches in the door sills that were showing early signs of rust - minor stuff really, but still a factor. Car comes with a 2 year warrantee and only had 44k on it.
I negotiated the price to 45,800, which seems fair all things considered.

Then, I saw a REALLY nice new S4. Smaller car I know, but it's a stunning vehicle. It was a 2011 Premium model. Sprint blue pearl (looks better than it sounds) with two-tone black/grey interior. Good options, including suspension, exhaust and rims from Pfaff Tuning. This is obviously more money, but I found it very tempting.

I was going to drive the M5, but it sold yesterday - probably for the best.

Decisions, decisions.

Audi S4 is a great choice, balanced powerful, great sedan.
Chip and exhuast, 440 hp and lots of torques.

45k for a car with early signs of rust?
Audi is nice but i would move on to a non accident or repaint car that someone took care of. Audi in general gets my vote for a year round daily.
