Default Great Day at Calabogie

August 8 with CMP lapping. Weather was perfect and I met a few fellow Rennlisters (names withheld but please chime in). I enjoyed having the 2 GT-3s blast past me and had a lot of fun on track with a Rennlister 964.
The Corvette race car of one of the Calabogie owners was blindingly fast until motor issues caused retirement.
Lightly attended so plenty of clear track. A number of drivers left after lunch so the PM advanced driver sessions only had 4 cars on track. As always, CMP puts on a well organized and safe event.
348 km of track time, 2 tanks of gas. Back on Thursday and Friday PM. Note that they now have half day and evening sessions available.

I always do over 300 km total distance at CMP if the weather is good. 2 run groups, 28 minutes on, 32 off and 7 sessions for the day starting at 9am...I certainly have had enough at 4:30pm.

Bruce was talking about tanks and pumps at the track. Guess that didn't happen yet?

No, Mumford's in town is the only option other than bringing your own supply. If I was Calabogie mgmt, I would continue to support the local economy, not compete with it as there are still those in the community who are very anti-track.
Phil at Mumford's told me that the same anti-Calabogie group was trying to ban a charity motorcycle run through the area.

Hey Ian, great day indeed, well half-day for me. Especially welcome after Sunday's rain cancellation.

Can't remember how staying at Calabogie an extra day came about, but it had nothing to do with the track. We decided to stay Sunday night to chill, then found out about Monday lapping. When we opened the blinds in the am, and saw the glorious sunshine, it was a pretty easy decision.

Especially appreciated the longer sessions since it was my first time there, and that there are so many turns to figure out. The extra 10 minutes really helps.

I did a total of 450km for 1.5 days of Rennsport + .5 day of CMP Lapping. Funny how fuel management becomes such an issue at these longer days. Maybe when I get an enclosed trailer, I need to start carrying 45-gallon drums

Hopefully get a chance to go back this year

I got in behind the Vette for one session cause I just had to see it run. A thing of pure beauty. I stayed with him for a full lap (the slow, warm up lap), and hardly saw its brake lights. Then it slowly got away, very smoothly with no drama whatsoever, as if he was taking a Sunday drive. Wow.

Back again Thursday all day and Friday am. Weather on Thursday was cool and cloudy with a few sprinkles. The downpour started about 5 minutes into the last session...end of day for me.
Multimatic had the other season (only advanced drivers on Thursday). They were dialing in a prototype testing mule. They also were testing an unbelievable on-off car that they built for the son of the LG founder. Carbon fibre tub, hand formed aluminium body, incredible interior, much breather on Ford GT motor. Looked like a cross between a GT 40, Lambo and Ferrari F-40. Bill to date is over $4 million. They also were testing an Ariel Atom lookalike with ridiculous camber. Wheels were splayed out approx 30 degrees...sure spun a lot of times.
In our group, we had 2 Ferrari Challenge cars....they were rocking. 3 red flags diminished track time but much fun was had by all. No-one lost an eye in the reg flag incidents.
Friday am was warm, sunny and I had a blast. Back for 2 days at the end of August.

Sorry Francois
I don't take my BBerry to the track anymore (don't want to cloud my mind with email thoughts) so no photos. I thought that the track photographer may have taken a few shots but no luck on the Calabogie web site. They have photos from the Mnday event up now if you want to take a look at your car.
Regards
Ian

Hi Ian, a.k.a. smoothie,

Yes it was a splendid day !
It really is a special place. Even the drive there is spectacular, well, once you get off the 401.
I have driven a few tracks and I find the calabogie experience overwhelming every time.
In the process of upgrading my brakes so that I can keep up.

See you on the 24th
