Default Scam Alert!

Last week I listed an ad for my truck for sale on Autotrader, Kijiji, etc. with my cellphone number listed.
This afternoon today I received a call on my cell which was an automated machine stating something along the lines of "We come across your ad for selling your vehicle, we are not a dealer or broker, we guarantee that we can sell your car faster and for more than you are asking, please press 1 to speak with so and so or press 9 to remove your number from our directory". I pressed 9 then hung up right away but does anyone think that they can now trace my location or would they have had to know my number in the first place?
Just wanted to let everyone know in case they get that random call.

They probably just want you to pay them between $100 and $500 to list your car on there site and they say they have buyers lined up. Last year I recieved many of these calls, although not by a machine. I suspect that is what it was.

Nawh, they can't trace you.

FYI - Pay as you go, is usually the best way to deal with selling stuff on the web, most of us have extra phones around the house.
Ten bucks for a new sim card & usually min $10 to top up required a month.

I had many such calls when I sold my car a mth ago. They also call you and asked many questions about your car and genuinely sound very interested before going onto the sales pitch.

Then the emails start after! Wasted bandwidth!

i got a Email first then a call last week from a guy in Ottawa who had listed his Aston Martin AMV8 for sale... he said he had recived a email from Autotrader.ca with my Full Name, Cell Number and Email address that i was intrested in the car... He called and spoke to me i told him this is weird... i told him to email me that email he got... i called Autotrader, they dont have any of my info on their system, but this guy from Ottawa does...

Imagen that... He has my Cell Number, Full Name and Email Address, and i dont even know WTF is going on... I guess its thanks to all the Sweepstakes i have signed up for...

I told him even if i was looking for a Car it would be a Porsche or Lambo and not a Glorified Volvo...

There is a legit I'net site that seeks to sell cars that way. Ask how I know. It's not a scam but the claims are unsubstantiated so just put them on ignore.
