Speed Camera's in Ontario?
I live in Barrie Ontario, and ride a bicycle for exercise around the area including a rural area called Oro. I was riding my bike accross the Hwy 11 overpass on Oro line 3, and there was a camera fastened to the overpass with a black cable attached going down underneath the bridge. I didnt stop to take a long look at it--but there was no doubt it was pointed at the traffic on Hwy 11 as cars drove under the bridge. It was too small to be a television camera--and there was nobody there minding it.
Have Ontario police been using speed cam's (so popular in the U.S.A. as I understand it)? Just trying to figure out what the purpose of the camera was--and if it was a speed cam, that adds another level of enforcement to an already pretty tight speed control program.
Perhaps this is common knowledge, but in my ignorance, I am not aware of speed camera usage here.

McGinty said in 2007 he woudnt resort to speed cams in Ontario:

However, Mississauga Ontario says something different:
http://www.mississauga.ca/portal/res...edspeedcameras
So, I cant help but wonder if what I saw was a speed cam--I've not seen one before, so not sure how to identify one...

I'm sure one of the Rennlisters in Quebec can provide a picture of one of their speed cams, or the huge green billboard that announces its presence. Really a matter of slowing down for 100 yards , then resuming your normal activities. Not sure they have mobile ones yet.
In the UK, the cameras were in flashy yellow boxes. They had to be clearly marked after some lawsuit... They did have minivans they would park on overpasses and such, but those were also marked with bright yellow.

There is a move within a lot of municipalities to install fixed position speed cameras in school zones and high risk areas. I don't have a problem with those or red light cameras.
