general consensus and an article in Motorcyclist states that styrofoam liner in the helmet degrades overtime.... especially if worn often.... I think it compresses a little bit over time from putting it on and off....

Besides safety, other reason's to get a new helmet every 5 yrs or so... is fashion and the smell of 'helmet funkiness'.....

My trackday (bike) helmet though has only seen maybe 25h of wear in 3 yrs. I will plan to keep this one close to the 10 yr mark.... My streetbike (KBC FFR flipup)helmet also sees snowmobile use, so it probably would be due for a replacement sooner.... It's at the 4yr mark now.
