PCA banishing non club events from Provinz
#31
Just a few random comments about this:
At UCR the track program is the tail that wags the dog, bringing in the majority of the clubs revenue.
My understanding that the removal of the advertising is that it is a mostly political decision.
Banning some track days, without banning all of them, may have a negative impact on some peoples support in other areas important to the club.
You can all read between the lines if you like.

Good point. I brought that up a few years ago - I was looking through their financials and it showed that DEs were profitable. Not huge, but still a couple thousand per, if memory serves. I suggested they do more - way more, and at other tracks. The response was basically "no, not interested". I let my membership lapse last year - no point in renewing.
IMO the 2 magazines that you get every month with your $35 membership pays for itself and the membership is free some rlisters have been posting at how great the centrefold color pictures in Provinz are.
the revenues collected from non pca track days were negligible at best and most groups did not even pay, just posted up on the message board.
advertising revenue per issue is up substantially this year over previous years btw.

UCR has always gone to Shannonville (though they skipped a year or 2) - that wasn't my suggestion. My suggestion was to book single weekdays at Mosport, Dunnville (RIP ) and TMP. The numbers seem to be there for other groups, and UCR draws many more people than the other groups. All 3 of them are less than 90 minutes from Toronto and it's much cheaper during the week. I did notice in meeting minutes that the suggestion was raised, but obviously it went nowhere. This was actually in response to someone's request on the UCR forum for suggestions from club members. And the response was pretty much negative.
I do miss Provinz - I liked reading about local stuff, but Pano did nothing for me. A pretty picture on the cover, but really little info I cared about.

I'm not even talking about DE days, it's the advertising revenue for the Provinz magazine that's losing money. So to turn ad revenue away because it's, "non-PCA approved" is stupid by any economic standard.

turbodan- I agree that the magazine is a good buy and the centerfolds are great. We're not privvy to the current financial position of the magazine, therefore my comments were just a review of what was published in the issue, both the ban and the meeting minutes.

again the lost revenue is negligible at best and Provinz's advertising revenue is up, so advertising revenue was not a factor in this decision. again many groups weren't even paying just posting on the message boards.

40 cars on track at a time? That's allowed at a DE? That's insane - the track is under 4km long, that means one car every 100m! I thought the track always had a limit of 20 cars or something like that, outside of races? I seriously can' picture 40 cars on track at a time, and would feel VERY unsafe with that much traffic, especially if it were a novice group.
With the 'point' rules (for passing) in DE events and no passing into apex's etc - I think it is quite safe - more so then our region racing with half those car counts!

I agree - that much traffic is too much, both in terms of safety and fun.
