yeah i knew the stock one was stainless; i meant a performance aftermarket one...im really just looking to get a nicer sound to be honest; i dont plan on trying to go power-crazy on this car, mostly suspension and handling upgrades.

anyways, thanks for the warm welcome guys! my uncle luckily kept full service records on this car for the 3 years he had it, and has records from the 2 owners before that (i'm the 4th owner). he told me the timing belts were changed during his ownership, at a reputable porsche shop somewhere near Hamilton (i'll have to ask him what it was called because it's slipped my memory). he unfortunately didn't provide me with the paperwork yet (and as i said he lives in California) so i don't know the exact mileage of when it was done, but i know it was a while after he bought it so...within the last 2 years...and he barely drove it.

JDSStudios - i should have been more specific. by "starting it" i meant letting it run until it's warm and taking it around the block a couple of times, provided there's no snow on the roads.

AM993 - you're a brave soul and it pains me to see a 944 with that much salt on it! assuming its yours of course...

iceman - you name the time and the place and i'm there! i love GTG's and wanted to go to a couple last september when i first got the car, but i didn't even know this forum existed so i had no way of finding out when the meets were!

Christien - my headlight motors work fine, i actually set the lights like that on purpose; "sleepy" mode...i guess maybe it's a JDM car thing?

Jim - bushings are definitely near the top of the list, i forgot to put it in my original post

PPo - where is your shop?? i can't believe i haven't heard of this before...we'll have to meet up; when i first got it i thought i might be the only 944 in Bolton but then saw a white 944/2 in early November with black turbo twists on it, and then a red 944/1 parked in a driveway on The Gore north of Mayfield...

anyways guys, one more time, thanks for the warm welcome! glad to have finally found somewhere to connect with fellow canadian/ontarian P-Car enthusiasts!

PS i was stopped in the left hand turn lane at Dixie and Queen in Brampton the other night when a young guy in a white (or silver...it was dark, couldn't tell for sure) 944/2 pulled up beside me and stopped at the light. i honked and got you to roll down your window and we chatted 944's until the light turned green. you said yours was an '86 base. i was driving a beat-*** red Isuzu Trooper (winter warrior). you turned west onto queen and got onto the 410 northbound. anyone here?

Hey Brian, the best advice that I can give you before you start replacing a bunch o things is to to order a Haynes Porsche 944 Service Manual from Canadian Tire or Chapters (~$20) . The manual was done using the early 944 ('83-'85) but apart from the interior, the car is mostly the same as the later ones.

Coincidence or what, I found this article in this Month's Excellence Magazine on the 944 and how it originated.

Welcome aboard from a 944/911 owner.

The 944's are a great Porsche to start with. Six years with mine got me totally ready to jump into 911 ownership. And the 944 is much easier to drive quickly on the track.

The more focused 944 forums here on Rennlist will incredibly helpful - but if you need local help - just reach out - we're all here to help.

I bet that these go for a very resonable price.
