Automatic transmissions have a torque converter. PDK is a 7 speed manual with a dual clutch controlled by a computer. To distinguish between an "automatic" and thing like SMG, F1, Steptronic and PDK, Car and Driver coined the term "manumatic". None of the manumatics listed above have a power wasting torque converter.

Soooo, with PDK, I am still in control of when it shifts, in M mode.
it still auto, the computer is just set to upshift and downshift at different levels then regular and sport mode.

Also when you turn the key and start the ignition, it defaults to auto.
