Hooo boy, tough one! Really enjoy the connected feel of the stick and rowing through the gears, but the launch control feature of PDK would definitely take me back to my old hooligan days when I had the '69 396 SS Camaro
and the instant gear selection on kick down is a big plus. Soooo, assuming that the paddle shifters work as reported, by a narrow margin, I'd go with pdk .... but I'd still tell my bride it was strictly manual shift

look at the used car market .. I think the answer lies there somewhat ... I have been looking at 993's. when you list by price all the tips come up first .... nobody wants em .. and the prices are lower, substantially in some cases. PDK for me is just tip reinvented . end of the day it is an Automatic Porsche ..

With the cost of clutches and depending on if you do a lot of track days - the PDK may end up costing a lot less then the (extra) PDK option over the lifespan of the car. Just sayin...
Here's another poll question: If you were given a free 2001 911 - would you take the carbon brake option (yellow) they may give you or would you ask for the steel (red) instead. I'm again thinking of replacement costs down the road.

... have you ever looked at the cost of replacing an automatic tranny in German cars?

I understand that's the way Ferrari is now - you can't buy a stick-shift Ferrari anymore. Don't know if it's true, just what I've been told.

I saw the top gear test and it was obvious that the driver was not accustomed to the PDK gear box. He was frequently seen pushing the gear lever the wrong way and cursing it for being backwards. The test was meaningless. If PDK is slower than a manual, then someone better explain why the race cars have sequential transmissions.
