On my 2005 F 430 the F1 gearbox was a $16,000 option! Dealers tell everyone that resale on a 6 spd is nil. Something like 19 out of 20 Ferraris were sold with the F1 paddles.

Drum brakes had a wonderful safety feature - swervo-matic as I recall. As long as the car slid the right direction it was a life saver!
I would like to try PDK with the paddle shift option. I have SMG in my M6 and have become used to paddles. I like stick, but a well sorted out paddle shift would tempt me;no question about it. I dislike the non-paddle shift PDK and would not buy it.
Paddles would be safer, at least.
I just see PDK as a true best of both worlds. There will always be a soft spot for the manual transmission but it's no different than the old 993TT. It was raw and awe inspiring, i'd love to have one in my garage, but as a daily driver modern technology takes the cake hands down.
It's been proven it shifts faster and more precise, there is no potential for detrimental downshift damage, automatic mode for traffic and manual when you get bored. Please explain, factually, how a manual has the edge other than for nostalgia and the emotional attachment.
They'd be off their rockers if they eliminated the manual box. It would drive up the price of their base boxsters and caymans and they are already slightly more pricey than the comparable (performance wise) vehicles.

change gears (nightmare)- that is cold, iceman.

No torque converter- not automatic,
two clutches and 7 speed- not automatic.
I can choose when to shift gears- not automatic.
Engine blips on down-shifts- not automatic... (do I sound stubborn?)
and it is way faster than an automatic ( word "automatic" should not be used in the same sentence as the word Porsche)
Then again, if I'm on the track curving at 200 Km/hr I don't want to
take my hands off the steering wheel,
when I can shift with my fingers.
John this sounds like a great debate for a Friday night . I just hope I acan remember all this then ..
to me .. no clutch ... if you don't shift the car will shift for you ... automatic ..... done ..
