Question Is the battery under warranty?

Hi!
My Porsche Cayenne battery died twice, each time I have to recharge it and everything is ok but how do you know that it's time to change the battery?
My local Porsche dealer in Montreal charge 470$ (part and labor) + taxes for changing the battery but is it not under the Porsche warranty? is there any better alternative like another battery similar or better than the OEM?

Thanks

Ian

Mine was when it was under new car warranty.

Since then I replaced with a Canadian tire one, come with a great warranty.

The battery should be at leat load tested. Canadian Tire will do a free test if you bring it in. It takes about 30 min for their machine to run a full test. Both Canadian Tire and Interstate have good batteries. If you go with CT, get the premium line (Eliminator with the 72 month warranty). I beleive it's 3 year free replacement and the remaining 4 is pro-rated.

Where is the battery on a Cayenne, can you easily remove it yourself?

See if some of the guys know about Eliminator batteries. I don't have any experience with the 993tt but I've had a C Tire lifetime warranty Eliminator batteries in the Z for a couple of decades and they replace them gratis without complaint when they die every 5 to 7 years.....original cost under $100.

Imo000,

The cayenne battery is under the driver seat. I'm not too handy but I think I can remove it.

Eliminator battery- no way. If use use a CT battery, go with the 72 series. Much better battery.

I had to replace the OEM Porsche battery that came in my 89 Carrera when i bought it.The previous owner had the dealer install it for a total cost of $425.00 dollars.
It still had six months of warranty lfrom 24 left when i returned it to the dealer with the invoice... The nice man with the tie at the parts counter just laughed at me...
Anyhow what he said was they would have to verify my charging system which would be one hour of labor at 135.00 DOLLARS to see if it wasn't due to that and they could sell me another OEM battery for $245.00 dollars plus tax and installation !

I looked at the guiy and almost asked him if he was pulling my leg... lol
I ended up leaving him my dead 340 CCA battery and went to my Ford dealer and picked up the same physical size battery rated at 650 CCA for $83.00 dollars !

Brought to the CT garage this morning, they perform a battery test, it turns out that the battery is fine but maybe there's a problem with the alternator. I hope the alternator is under Porsche original warranty...Will the dealer replace the combo (alternator and battery)?

if the battery is fine why would they replace it?
be careful what CT does to your car...some of their techs are incompetent and will damage your car.
if cayenne is under original warranty, it should be covered.

Not this again. I've worked there for 15 years and this is bull****. I can say the same about many many dealerships!

@gtihop, all depends on the CT shop. Your shop could be a 5 stars top notch shop, providing superior customer service. However, for the regular un-educated car owner in TO, chances running into a bad CT shop is VERY HIGH. Just search benz, bimmer forum in TO and you will understand.

Now when you go to the dealer, don't say anything about the battery or that you had it tested. Let's see what recomendation they come back with. If they try to sell you a new battery, you should walk away.

In newer Cayenne's there are 2 batteries, one under the driver seat, one in the back.

Here is the problem with the one under the driver seat - read the owner manual. It is not a maintenance free battery. You are supposed to check it periodically to refill. In order to get at it you have to remove the seat - and here is the kicker. The seat is held down by 'special one time use bolts' - dust free. So ever time you 'check' the battery you are supposed to install a new set of seat bolts! And if you don't maybe your seat falls out in a crash. The manual doesn't say that but it is very specific about the bolts.

I know this sounds crazy - but read the manual. It's all there.

So replacing it with a maintenance free battery is a very good idea but I would suggest a porsche tech or dealer not CT as you will also want the bolts replaced. After you do this once you won't have to deal with it again for a long time.
