Canadian place for parts
I am working on my 91 944 cab and need some small parts.
I have a major issue ordering $6 in parts from the US and paying $27 shipping.
Where is a good canadian source for parts. On Line preferred as I don't have much time during business hours.
thanks

just have them ship via usps and if low cost items you will have no duty.
btw. have you posted pics of your car here...I don't recall seeing them as per forum rules
and tell us about your car please.

haven't put pictures yet because I don't have any.
First nice day I will pull it out of the garage and take some pics to post.
thanks for asking about the car its a 91 944 S2 cab with 91k miles. I imported it from the US 3 weeks ago. Nice condition not perfect but very nice. Overall the car is very clean interior is near perfect with the exception of a single dash crack that is not too bad. New roof and very decent paint.
Had a bunch of work done to the engine last week including fixing some stuff that the PO's friend the mechanic had done wrong as well as seals, cam chain and tensioner, front motor mounts etc.
Now I have it home and am doing stuff that I can do myself. So far I have:
Rewired fog lights for DRLs
Fixed Washer
Replaced cruise computer
Changed multiple bulbs etc
Removed and reinstalled sound system properly
Removed drivers door panel to diagnose power lock's and prepare for new door panel I purchased (mine was ripped)
etc.
Still on my list:
Diagnose and fix electric mirrors that don't work
Clean and detail
I failed the quebec inspection because my airbag system was not working properly. Everything else passed so if I get it up and running I am clear to register it.
I was told by my mechanic who did some diagnostics that there is a 90% chance that it is the airbag control unit. I was lucky enough to source one inexpensively last week from another rennlist member parting out a cab . I am considering doing this myself but the airbag thing scares me. Any comments?

remove battery for 30 minutes before doing anything with the airbag (this will defuse the pil in the airbag) then do whatever you want and airbag won't go off.
how do they test the airbag system?
what colour is the cab? did you drive it or ship it back? which part of the us did it come from? I always loved the cabs and would like to pick up a 968 cab one day.

All the inspection is looking for is for the airbag light to come up for 5 seconds when you turn the key and then go out. Apparently this indicates the system is functioning properly. I didn't know this and when I got the car the light did not light at all. The bulb was dead and when it was changed it lights up...goes out and then stays lit. So when you import that 968 look for the airbag light. I never even gave it a thought and its now problem.
It is Triple black. The car was in new jersey for the last 3 or 4 years prior to that Florida. I went to see it then drove it back.
I have always loved the 944 cab's since I was a kid and finally took the plunge. Having fun with it already and it is in the garage

yeah that is common for sellers to remove or damage the bulb for things like check engine light. you should always turn the key on before starting to see what lights up or not, to see what warning lights are funcitioning.

I buy allot of parts from the US. Paragon, Lindsey Racing, and EBS (Engine Builders Supply) and Pelican are good. You can find cheaper deals, but they will have the best chance of sending you the correct order. I really like Paragon for the 944. NEVER ship with UPS. Always ship with USPS. Lately my parts have been arriving without any duty. It sounds like you shipped with UPS....if you did, call them and dispute the charge on the basis that you were unaware of the charge for brokerage charges. I did this and they reversed the charge.
When buying things like oil filters, air filters, try Autopartsway.ca, if you buy $75 worth of parts they will ship for free, you can save a huge amount of money. For example, a Mahle oil filter is $7.46. That is a very good price.

Also, if you have the time, ship your orders to a UPS Store in NY state for pick-up. Shipping within the US is dirt cheap and you won't have to worry about brokerage fees which is the killer.
BTW, there is NO DUTY on car parts, just PST and GST on the Canadian value of the goods.
