Default Local source for H4 bulbs?

Title says it all. Driving up to the lake the other night I noticed only one headlight was on. Damn.

If I'm not mistaken the '99 Mazda Protege also has H4 bulbs. So I woud imagine TC or any other parts store should have one.

Scoop up all you five and ten cent CTC bills and head down to the local Canadian Tire ... Parts Source is another location ...

Stay away from Silverstone ... go for Philips or Ostrom if it's on the shelf.

Are all the bulbs the same? I looked online and found tons of Philips H4 12342 bulbs that all looked different.

Anyway, Mantis stocks them, so I should be fine.

As far as I know, all bulbs have standard designation and therefore, all with the same number are interchangeable. For example all 9004 are the same regardless of the brand/make and this goes for H4s too.
I personally put standard H4 bulb into a ’99 Protégé that came out of a round, Bosch 7” H4 conversion kit. The kit wasn’t meant for the Protégé but since both took H4 bulbs, the bulbs themselves were the same.

Canadian Tire, Part Source, Napa, etc will have them in stock for around $15/each.
As said above, stay away form the Silverstars as they only last a year or so and they are more expensive too.

CT does have various H4s including the Sylvania Silverstars which do have a life span of a year or less. But I've used them for nearly ten years in my cars and motorcycle and really like the added light they provide over standard H4 bulbs.

YMMV,
Rod.

Yep, just went with the generic Sylvanias - it was all they had at Partsource, and CT had nothing (as usual). I'll get better ones in there when I get a chance, but I needed something fast.

I just noticed one of my bulbs is out too. Were you able to find the 55/100w bulbs at Partsource? I was expecting to have to order these.

Also, I've heard in the past that one should replace headlight bulbs in pairs. Truth or myth?
