Default 993 Key Head - Local source

The spring mechanism on both my switchblades are broke so the key does not lock into the remote head unit, therefore it sticks out all the time in my pocket which is "painful" at times.

i removed the key from the head unit and rather than order another remote unit (US$75 on Pelican and theres nothing wrong with the old unit) I will just put the old key into a new key head.

Pelican has the key head for US$26.50 but shipping is basically the same amount and customs will add more so we're probably looking at around $70 for just the key head.

Is there a cheaper local source? can you by this type of key head just at a local auto parts store (the Porsche crest would be nice but....)

Thanks!

I ordered mine from Pelican few years back, and was mailed via regular USPS mail and no crazy fee.

You might want to try Paragon, they should have it too and they are reasonable w/ shipping.

Thanks. I had an old key from my destroyed 89 which I was just going to throw out but figured out how to get the key out courtesy of p-car diy and so i just put the newer key in. Now i will just use the remote without the switchblade and the new key. Nothing fancy but saved US$125

You should consider this conversion:

Thats kind of what i did but used existing parts. I just took the key out, will continue to use the existing remote (as there's nothing wrong with it) and put the key into my old key head. No cost.

Is there any advantage to this type of conversion with the new parts? The remote looks slightly smaller but thats about it?

The remote is not slightly smaller, it's a lot smaller: about half the size, and more importantly about half the thickness (much easier to hide in your pocket).

I bought the conversion kit a couple months back. I think it cost me $80 USD from Suncoast parts. I never paid any duties as well.

I hated the switch blade and this new key fob is a LOT smaller then the switch blade.
