Lightbulb FS: Charge-o-mat by Porsche

Debating if I should keep this Porsche version as I just picked up the ctek as well.

Make me an offer if you're interested, unit in Vancouver, BC.

Going for US$68.75, I guess I'll be happy if I get around CAD$50.

Thanks yes, the CTEK is nice, but I didn't get the one with the cigarette lighter adapter.

For those with the CTEK and the direct battery comfort connector for a 911, do you leave the plug outside or under the battery plastic cover?

Sorry if this is a dumb question ... but what is the advantage of the CTEK over the Porsche charger ? Is it just price or does it perform better in some way ?

i think the Porsche charger is a rebadged CTEK, so you can have something of Porsche required quality at Canadian tire prices.
I also do not have the cig lighter adapter but my lighter is not " hot" when the ignition is off so it was of no use. I leave the adapter piece fastened to the battery inside the car when not in use. When I am using it i hang it oudside and plug in , So those times I back out of the garage and forget about it , it just unplugs without damage.

Fair enough. I have the Porsche charger already (got it before I realized the CTEK existed) and I was curious if there was an issue with it that someone might prefer the CTEK charger. For 2 years the Porsche charger has worked for me flawlessly over the winter.

Well that is great news for those of us who bought the CTEK .. unless they put some additional state of the art technology inside it before putting on the Porsche sticker ... .

Yes, for me, the Porsche Charge-o-mat original doesn't have the clamps hence I cannot use it to charge our other vehicles. However, it seems like a good unit just for the 997 as the car does have the hot lighter plug. I don't need to open the hood, open the battery cover and fish out the CTEK connector cable.

The CTEK (the same one as the current Porsche Charge-o-mat II) may have better charging technology as it is newer though, who knows.

well another nice thing about the lighter charger is you plug it in before replacing a weak battery. Then you still have power to the memory systems and ECU while you change the battery.

... what happens if I short out the contacts when I'm changing the battery... does it then damage the CTEK. With the Bimmer I use a 9 volt battery connected to the lighter socket that does the trick of keeping the seat memory, maybe that will work with the new P-cars as well.

I got the tip from my brother, he is a Ford mech and to them time is money, less time wasted reprograming. and the newer cars have more of course.
Mark the plan is to not short em out , but if you are nervous about it don't do it. I have done this on my Audi several times and it works great

Any decent charger (eg. at these prices) would have output short circuit protection ... its a pretty fundamental concept in power supplies / chargers.
