btw Phil, I am not aiming this at you, I am just steering the conversation.

Ian,
I appreciate what you're saying, but all of these have one major thing in common that defines the difference from other cars: a badge that says Porsche and all the heritage that goes with it...yes even the Cayenne.

I am an old air-cooled car guy so water-pumper Porsches – 996, 997, GT3, CGT . . .
are a lot faster than my car! They may not look as pretty, but they're a ton of fun!

I am a track guy, so garage queen or heavy car-stereo’d Porsches are a waste and . . .
would allow me to see what my car might look like if I actually spent money on cleaning the interior, a real paint job or an upgraded stereo, rather than upgrading suspension, bleeding brake fluid, tuning carbs and buying more R-compound tires.

Those old 60s, 70s & 80s Porsches . . .
may not be as fast as a 997TT but are singlehandedly THE most beautiful cars ever produced and can provide their owners with every bit as much fun

Those 944 & 924 weren’t real Porsches anyway and they . . .
were a lucky break that VW or Audi didn't produce (read: mangle) them so Porsche could rescue them from the design dustbin and make them real cars. Like the boxster they may not have the same soul as the 911 line but 1) they outperform anything in their price range or class, which is why you still today see so many of them cleaning up at the track and 2) allowed Porsche to not focus on sales of the 911 so much as keeping it a wonderful car.

The 928s . . .
were one of the most technologically advanced production cars of their time, and still look good thanks to radical design, not to mention are a lot more comfortable to drive home from the track than my 911!

Well, I'm not one to boast, but I eat Masseys for lunch.

And if I can find a place in Ontario with a 1 km/hr speed limit, I just might be able to get it confiscated . . . downhill . . . with a brisk wind on my back . . . maybe if I lighten it a bit . . . what do you think? Drill some holes in the front cowl & put in a Sparco?

Don't forget cross-drilled rotors and lightened flywheel. Maybe a sport exhaust?

(btw I have no idea what a Massey is!)

Dead on the money, 32. And I've spent my whole life in cities, so I'm pretty unfamiliar with farm machinery (I'm assuming that's what it is).
