Just pull your visor closed on your helmet for max protection when you've got the camera in there...mind you the visor or helmet won't help you with your Dad if you ball-up his TT!
I was reading up on those mounts, and I don't think they'd come off too easily since they're designed to be used on the outside of the vehicle. I might get one and use it on a fun run next year.

The Gripper was my old setup. There is a button on the side where you can pump air out, hence it is called vacuum cap and it is very stable. I mounted my videocam on it with no problem.

The only drawback is you cannot film your hand movement.
