It's been 16 months since I took delivery of a new 992 C2S Cab in the entirely unimaginative tripple-black mid-life crisis dentist spec.

I've actually put 52,133 kms on it and I "daily" drive the car throughout the year but mostly that's long highway stints commuting from Muskoka where our house is to Toronto where I spend the week at work. I have been doing more around-town driving of late which is decidedly less enjoyable than bombing down the 400.

My previous posts were pretty luke warm I think about the car from an enthusiast perspective but that's probably more a reflection of how I drive it and the circumstances I use it in. On the occasion where I've flicked it into sport and driven it as "it should be" it reveals a truly impressive amount of capability. I mean maybe I'm getting old but why would anyone want a faster street car than this? Both the acceleration and mechanical grip are tremendous. If I were to get another I'd save the money and get a regular C2 and yes, I realize that there are much much faster cars out there than this.

RWD sports car on proper winter tires and I've never got close to getting stuck in some truly brutal storms and unplowed roads. I guess it's growing up with RWD and I'd stick with RWD 911s even for four seasons to get the 90L tank which gives me 800-900kms of range. One thing I did notice is that while the stability control light doesn't often flash that doesn't mean it isn't doing anything. I turned it off completely just to see and whoa that's a wild ride! It seems it's always doing something on a slippery surface but it's so good I can't even tell. Very impressive.

The distance cruise is also excellent. Smooth, liberal, assertive...best I've used.

Consistently what impresses me most is the quality. $200K for this car seems like a lot (because it is) but the quality is undeniably there. 52,000kms of rough cottage roads, city roads, all manner of highway driving through all manner of weather and it doesn't have a squeak or a rattle. Cleaned up it looks as new. It's legitimately a solid piece of engineering and Macans and Cayennes just don't feel built like the Carrera IMO. 18 way seats are excellent and well worth the premium.

Only issue I've had wasn't the car's fault. I hit a bird (or rather he hit me) on the highway and shattered the headlight. Base headlight...$8K to replace !?! I mean please **** off it's plastic and a bulb. Absolutely insane.

Maintenance is also expensive as you all know. Already went through a set of the Continental winters. I'm going to try Hakkapeliittas next as they are 10/32nd instead of 8/32nd.

Even if my alleged GT3 allocation comes through I'm not sure I'd do it. I don't think I'd enjoy using it as much as much of the time. I realise it's not necessarily for that but I had romanticised the idea of dailying a GT3 and now I'm not sure I would...for the distance cruise alone given the hours I spend on the highway...

So that's just over 50K in a 992...nothing dramatic to report. It's worth the money especially if you use it as much as I do and need a comfortable and fast long distance cruiser.

That is awesome! How is your paint holding up? Lots of stone chips etc especially on the front and hips?

Cool review. Please tell me you don’t do that commute every day, ie, you work/stay in Toronto during the work week?

Excellent review and very good to be able to put the miles on it. Not sure a GT3 would be as comfortable for daily commuting!. Agree that parts prices are just insane.

Happy to see it. A have a 992.2 GT3 next to my daily '22 Taycan GTS that will be 4 years old soon so I have a plan to replace it with a 911 C2.

About a GT3 as a daily (personal): It is a fantastic car, happy to sit in any time especially on track and occasionally on the roads as well having some fun and release stress.

On the other hand using it as a commuter especially for high milages it is way too noisy on monotonous highway roads with its shortened ratio 7spd box.

Missing many comfort and practical functions that make everyday usage nice. No heated steering wheel, no seat ventilation, no comfort assess, no 360 camera for safe and comfortable parking, very low, scraping 'everywhere' against FL (front up, back down), no ACC/LKA, and no sunroof (of course) that I like.

Although I am happy with the hard suspension, but as a daily softer setup of a Carrera also welcomed.

My GT3 has buckets, wing, roll cage (Clubsport), so a special car for special use.

I also live in a 4 season area, couple of days/weeks with snow, so happily see with winter tires the C2 is usable winter time as well. Snowy days are not so many and not every year, I would happily get sharper steering, lower weight, bigger tank, playful drive against the 4wd.

I was daily my 991.2 C4 before the Taycan and have an itch to get back that feeling with an everyday use. One of the biggest regret of my life I sold it in the favor of a Taycan.

RWD cab for year round DD is just amazing. You are enjoying life. Looking forward to more updates.

I aspire to get a 911 and will only do so if it's a daily. I think it would be perfect in that capacity.

They put PPF on the front of the car but the film has some pretty good nicks in it. Paint would be massacred without it.

The PPF that comes on the rear fenders is pretty messed up too. Might replace it all this summer.

Haha...no. It's a weekly deal. Then add in going to a movie on the weekend and that's another 220kms. I'll drive to NYC or Montreal for business too. Just pilling them on!

Thanks. I think it’s great that you are driving the car everywhere! I hope you’ll share what the depreciation turns out to be when you sell it. That knowledge might help push someone like me to do the same!

I found the TL guards on the front reduced the chips on the rear fenders by a lot!

I had a ton of PPF and ceramic on my 992RS (100% of the car ). The thing is a nightmare for stone and gravel due to the fact that the wheels are wider than the bodywork in places and it accumulates lots of stones. I had triple layers in vulnerable areas. Works very well.

Thanks for sharing the review and good to see the 992 is running strong without any hiccups along the way!!

How many sets of winter tires and which winter tires you recommend? Looks like you do a lot of winter driving and still manageable for RWD..that is awesome.

Well my theory is it's depreciating whether I drive it or not...might as well use it LOL.

I believe that it'll cost me less per mile the more I drive!
