actually its not at all the same .. Cars have to meet government standards to be imported, DRLs, seat belts, child anchors and yes Noise abatement standards.. once that is set im saying you shouldn't be allowed to crank it down even more, once the feds have decided this is allowable.

PP will certainly dump the carbon tax. it's already proven that it doesn't decrease GHG. we pay the tax directly on goods that are producer exempt like gas and oil and for the goods that aren't producer exempt we pay the cost in price increases passed on by said producers. I pay carbon tax on natural gas and then GST on the total so tax on carbon tax. madness. other than giving people ghost govt jobs why tax something that does nothing and then rebate it back? how many millions does running a useless idea cost?

There is a fair bit of debt to be refinanced at current rates this year so just like people with mortgages there will be a shock.
What I would like to hear from someone is to start running a fiscally conservative ( in the general sense of the word). For instance, a plan to reduce the public service by 20% might be good. Maybe defined benefit pension plans. Holding someone accountable for the lack of oversight that led to the ArriveCan debacle. Some kind of analysis of how we allowed such a sudden immigration influx without a housing plan. I am an immigrant myself and understand well that we need people given the low birthrate, but this unplanned influx was very poorly thought through.
The carbon tax may well go away, but there is a real question as to what happens when a sufficient number of EVS argon the road and the tax revenue falls as it is doing in California. We may end up with some kind of usage tax at that juncture.
What specific proposals come from either Polievre of Trudeau ( or more likely, his successor) are yet to emerge.

stop radical spending on socialist policies amd pet projects and they won't need to worry about revenue streams. start running the country like they were elected to do instead of running people's lives and we'll be just fine

And a dead stop on immigration and anyone not already with PR is kicked out immediately and anyone applying for PR is denied unless they're a doctor or paying at least $25k (or something) in taxes per year.
