Default Thoughts on these 996s

Hi Friends,
I'm relatively new to the forum and am looking to purchase my frist Porsche. I've come across two 996s that have caught my eye.

First is a 2004 996 C4S, 42K KM and $56K CAD
https://www.autotrader.ca/a/Porsche/...ed/5_54475040_

Second is a 2005 996 Turbo S, 93K KM and $83K CAD
https://www.autotrader.ca/a/Porsche/...ed/5_58701362_

I'm looking for general thoughts on these two offers and advice on how to proceed should I want to pursue one.

Also, these are in Vancouver and I'm Ontario based. Any ideas on executing an out of province purchase would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance...

As the owner of a C4S I normally would be biased. It is after all the best looking 911 of ALL generations

That being said, looking at these 2, if you can afford the price difference the Turbo S is an infinetly better choice. I wouldn't blink twice.

Sadly I can't offer any cross-province purchase advice as I bought mine locally (to me) in QC.

Good luck with your purchase and wish you loads of smiles per gallon!

I second the turbo. Buying in BC is fairly straight forward, i picked up my 991.2 last summer in Vancouver and drove it back to Toronto. The dealer can take care of everything, I recommend not plating in BC otherwise you need to pay a higher BC tax (you can apply for refund but a PITA). Get a temporary BC insurance to cover the transit back to Ontario. Just pay the HST with the dealer and show to Service Ontario when registering it here. I had mine PPI’ed in Vancouver and the dealer coordinated everything. If you can drive it back I would highly recommend it, as it an epic trip driving through the Rockies.

the 996 and the 996 Turbo are different engines ..
I would buy the Metzger Turbo engine 996 in a heartbeat all day long over the M96

+1 on the Turbo

Highly encourage a pre-purchase inspection at a reputable shop!

Cor Motorcars is a top shelf shop!

Turbo all day if it checks out

I'll recommend Scan Automotive in North Vancouver for a PPI

I was thinking about driving it back as well glad to hear someone has done the same. How long was your drive? Who did you get to PPI it for you and do you get a tangible asset upon completion of a PPI? A report, document outlining what's been inspected and results?

Thanks for this was going to ask about Cor.

In regards to Scan can you tell me more about the PPI? What's entailed, do you get a physical report, cost etc...?

Thanks!

I used Scan Automotive as suggested here. It was $660 plus taxes, the dealer dropped it off at their shop for day and picked it up the next day. I received a fairly comprehensive report that cemented my decision to purchase. As for the drive back it took us 5 days, I picked up my 911 in summer of 2023 and if you recall the worse forest fires in BC. I only had small window to safely drive through BC becuase of the fires. We literally flew in the morning, signed the papers and left Vancouver. Even with the smoke in the background it was an amazing drive through BC. We stayed fo sometime in Banff but quick overnights in Regina and Winnipeg. The longest part seemed to be drive through Ontario to Toronto. I would highly recommend it, I was able to learn a lot about the car and enjoy the scenery. I didnt push it too much in fear of any mechanical breakdowns. Good luck with your purchase.

I used Weissach in Vancouver, as recommended by Porsche Vancouver (they no longer offer PPIs). Scan also came highly recommended but I didn't want travel to the North Shore but for you, it may work out if you're having the car shuttled around. I was quoted around the same price for both shops.

For my PPI, which was just completed a couple of weeks ago, I received a 4-page report, a debrief/discussion on any remediation, potential repairs and services and cost estimates for any outstanding items. I can send you a copy if you're interested how the report is broken down. Fortunately for the 991.2 C2S that I had inspected, it was in near perfect condition with very minor items identified but the experience at Weissach was exceptional.

Good luck!

I purchased my 911 from Weissach and their service was exceptional. They did their own PPI providing me a the same 4 page detailed report but for piece of mind I had it sent to Scan for second opinion and confirmed everything that Weissach had on their report. Did I regret spending an extra $600, not really when buying a used vehicle over 100k. Mike Jones @ Weissach was great to deal with and they took care of everything for registration in Ontario.

Yes you will receive a written report from Scan. As I am local, I also had a great consult with James.

Good luck!
