Default Cost of used 996 mufflers/work to get them installed in the GTA?

My ‘99 996 C2 mufflers are rusted at the seam, and have internal rattles. I had Gtek have a look at them, and was told the internal baffles have come loose and mufflers need to be replaced. Went to a few other muffler repair shops hoping for a possible repair instead, but all recommended replacement.

So now I’m in the market for a used set of mufflers, hoping to find them locally in the GTA.

How much should I expect to pay for a used OEM set in good condition?

And how much should I expect to pay a shop to get them installed? Gtek previously quoted me around $200 just for the muffler clamps, hardware etc and $350 for the labour, for just one muffler. Does that seem like the going rate for this job?

Thanks in advance!

It's hard to say how much effort it is, with rusty falling apart exhaust, it can be a 15 minute job if you can bolt up to something clean or a several hour job if you have to fab in new pipes or get into somewhere awkward.

maybe go to an exhaust shop for the install. not sure if generic muffler can be used. I use D and D muffler on Crockford for exhaust work.

Hard to beat this, $400 plus a couple hundred labour for installation.

Try calling Hot Rod Scotts

HOTRODSCOTTS

They may be able to repair your existing or fab up a new set of mufflers.

Thanks everyone! I visited several muffler shops including D&D, Quick Muffler, and Hot Rod Scotts - none would repair loose baffles, and all recommended replacement instead.
Also checked out the GT3 mufflers on fb marketplace, but they wouldn't fit in my narrow body c2.

Going to check out a shop selling some used sets this weekend. $1100 for a 'mint set' and $700 for a 'condition you'd expect from 20+ year old mufflers' are def a bit more steep, but looks like the price I might have to pay to get them locally.

Hotrodscotts is where I had the 'Fister mod' done to my exhaust. Worked out well for me.

check out https://www.design911.co.uk/
I ordered a set of 997 muffler from them and got them in GTA within 3 days. They are good quality and reasonably priced including shipping and import duty.

I like the one produced by FVD Brombacher, specifically the "Sound" version. Ships from Germany, so no duties!

I have a set off my old 04 C4S. Im in Calgary Alberta tho so shipping might kill the deal but I would take $400 for them (not sure what shipping/packaging/ect would cost). But again maybe since the c4s is widebody it may not fit your car.

Just an option.

Unfortunately they don't do any muffler repairs, only modifications to ones in good working condition.
But I'll keep that in mind, if I ever want to get the mod done to my next replacement.

The wide body mufflers won't fit my narrow body, unfortunately. Thanks though!

Are you positive the gt3 mufflers won't fit your c2? One of the guys locally bought the mufflers off the 996 gt3 from Pfaff and is running them in his otherwise stock 996.1 c2.

Did you try contact Randy at Whaletail Canada / (519) 590-4911.

He might have new or good condition used.

I am in the same situation- need mufflers for my 2002 C4S. Not a lot of used options in the GTA and I was in London for Thanksgiving and the seller of the GT3 mufflers never responded.

I'll give him a shout, see what might be available. Thanks!

Yeah not a lot of options here at all. There's a few in the states, but the shipping + duty really adds a fair bit to the final cost.
Thankfully no exhaust leaks on mine yet and just an annoying baffle rattle, but I'd rather address it sooner than later if it's gonna have to be done anyways.
