Default Best Fuel for a new 992 Porsche Carrera

Any opinions on best fuel in the GTA area? The car wants a high octane fuel but most high octane has ethanol, which is not so great long term for these engines. Shell has a non-ethanol high octane fuel but the octane rating is lower. Which is better?

To my knowledge Shell has stopped carrying non-ethanol fuel though there may be some remaing storks here and there.

Ethanol is really only an issue for classic cars and small engines or anything with carbs. She’ll is now rolling out 93 octane at newer stations. So it’s that or Petro 94.

Modern cars are all designed to run with blended fuel. It may lower performance but it is not going to damage an engine in a brand new car. Anyone that says it will is drinking the koolaid.

Regardless ethanol free gas is gone.

You don't have down east?

No ethanol 94, with its own dispenser as to not have any residue from the peasant side.

Slightly off-topic, but if one has a carbureted car, how does one compensate for gas with ethanol in it?

Everything in the GTA and beyond now has ethanol .... My car runs better on Petro 94 as opposed to Shell 93 ..Those are your choices ...

I think that you would have to rejet your carburetor[s]. I'm an oldie, and my first car was a 1965 Corvette with a 365HP rated mechanical valve lifters engine to which I did a lot of tuning. Since the alcohol content of the fuel reduces its energy content per unit volume, a greater volume would be needed to produce the same power. On the positive side, alcohol has greater resistance to engine knocking [higher octane rating], so alcohol was used in high compression racing engines back then -- think Offenhausers in Indy cars.

We use either Chevron non-ethanol 94 or Petro Canada 94 with ethanol in both our 992 and MkV Supra 3.0. Whether with or without ethanol, don't notice any performance difference in either car. Both vehicles get low to mid-teen MPG (my wife's right foot is slightly lighter than mine, but not by much) and we see no evidence of supposed increased fuel economy with non-ethanol.

Chevron 94 is junk.

Ethanol is absolutely fine in these cars. Use Esso 94, Shell 94, Petro 94.

We've tested Chevron 94, timing was down on it.

I agree. I pulled datalogs with both Petro 94 and chevron 94 from the Calgary area and found more timing being pulled using the chevron. I will be using only petro 94 with torco accelerator (which sucks because I have to order online) and will flash back to stock tune for winter when blends change.

This is on a tuned car?

Find this hard to believe, especially that it is so difficult to accurately measure.

^ Not hard to read at all, when you look at the logs and see timing being retarded.

Chevron is garbage. No one around here uses it at all. My Coyote Mustang buddies swear by Shell 93. I have yet to try it.
