There are jacking old Corolla's and pizza delivery driver's 18 year old Acura's now, along with Rover's, Q5's, and Cayenne's apparently. Matter of time before someone gets hurt I guess.

First of all the TorontoSun is an alt-right news source and secondly they're racist by calling the skin colours of the suspects.

But don't you worry, handguns are getting banned so these car jackers will be forced to use strong language only to take your car.

You can read the exact same thing from these sources if it's easier on your sensibilities:

https://toronto.citynews.ca/2022/06/...livery-milton/

And Global if you don't want to know what the suspects look like:

My understanding is that they will not be buying back the hand guns. You can keep them, but you can never pass them on to others...

So basically they are making the personal property of some citizens worthless. Because of that, there is no incentive to turn them in, and if the goal is to reduce the number of guns in circulation, this makes little sense.

That's exactly how it works. You can keep them indefinitely and use them at the range, but you cannot sell them or give them to anyone else. If you want to turn them in you will not be compensated.

I thought that handguns and AR15s were already prohibited weapons in Canada?

not sure what good they’d be in a carjacking situation because if they’re not prohibited I bet they need to be locked up and home or locked up while in transit to a range.

I don't understand how describing someone by the colour of their skin is racist?

Eventually handguns will follow. Once they go down this road, it won’t stop

Fairly farcical though.

We are on the border of the most prolific gun culture in the world with a vast border. The majority of guns used in crimes are smuggled in ,illegally obtained, and thus will be unaffected by the ban. Further, the punishment for illegal gun possession is nothing special and people are bailed out frequently if it is just possession. To my knowledge there is no change in the penalties for illegal gun possession, so what changes?

I am not a gun nut in the least and do not have any, though I hunted when I was a youth. However, a law that has no effect seems to me to be more PR than an effective measure. You sometimes see gun caches in weapons seizures ands the variety of stuff is amazing. even Uzis and Tek 9s among the junk handguns that are sold for peanuts.

I think you meant rifles will follow. My guess is that is what the long gun registry was for.

no I mean once they force buyback on AR’s and other “assault” rifles, they will go after other restricted weapons like handguns. Buy those back to. They will leave non restricted weapons alone.
