Default Track Insurance?

So I've signed up for that 'Porsche Sports Cup Canada at Circuit Mont-Tremblant' and well now I'm wondering about the insurance stuff.

My policy says this;

PROHIBITED USE OF INSURED VEHICLE
The insured vehicle may not be driven or operated by the insured persons
...
(c) To participate in a race or speed test.
So I googled a bit but can't find anything. Hagerty comes up as an option but I asked them and they said they only do track day insurance in the USA.

What other options are available up here?

That event you're participating in is neither a race nor a speed test; it is high performance driver education. The Porsche Canada days are very safe and you would absolutely not be allowed to drive recklessly or in any sort of racing manner.

Others can chime in with their experiences but my suggestion would be to go ahead as is... and certainly not contact your insurance company to ask directly if you're covered.

There was a company that offered track day insurance up until a few years ago where they bailed out of the Canadian market.

Best you not tell us who you are nor respond to private messages asking about your car.

Nothing at the moment. No options. There were a few options, they bailed slowly 2020-2021 due to losses and lack of market (blame COVID).

If that is your only limitation and you don’t have a track exclusion rider, you are insured for a DE event.

Tape your plate and pay a sympathetic tow company cash to bring you to a distant field if you bin it?

this is terrible advice. if you bin your car at the track, there will be an official incident report filed at the track. if you report an accident otherwise and they find out it was at track...fraud

At what level are you driving? I wouldn't worry about it if you are a newbie.

Good call. Does anyone have info on how a "track exclusion rider" would look on an insurance policy? I'm going to read through my docs just to make sure.

it is usually a stand-alone one pager than you have to separately sign and send back to the insurer. It wouldn't be buried in your policy. I had to do that with Chubb.

Open Track will currently insure you in Canada if you have a US address

This issue was tested in a court a number of years ago and the judge found if certain conditions weren't met (timing, prizes, jockeying for position) then it was consider advanced driver's education and insurance couldn't deny you if you got in an accident at the track. That doesn't mean they won't drop you like a hot potato immediately after, but they have to pay out. If you want to read it, I posted the judgment here. Probably 2013 or 14. Do NOT have your car towed down the road and call from there. A certain rennlister tried that and it did not end well. Or rather it did, but only after he came clean, if memory serves.

Perhaps I should have used some emojis to convey this as a joke, in the age of social media, dash cams and live streaming you'll almost certainly be caught. That being said, many have tried this and I'm sure some have succeeded

sorry but any instructor would know about official incident reports being filed at racetracks. the incident report is what would be caught likely not live streaming. Sorry but your comment did not appear to be a joke but rather very bad advice.
be safe guys
