I have a BRZ on order for use as a daily driver (and maybe as an affordable track car later). Should get it in a few months. Performance is comparable to my old 987.1 base Boxster.

Yes, that is correct! I went to see Augustino Chan and Wai Kee Lau. Both nice guys and very friendly. They only have the base model in automatic and won't be getting in a manual until the summer. Good luck!

By the way, there are a couple of companies out there, one is Australian and the other is Edelbrock who make bolt-on supercharger kits for the BRZ FRS and 86 which bump HP and TQ into the high 200’s.

Buy one used in the mid twenties, plus the supercharger, and you’re at $30K.

pretty awesome car for the money.

Drove the latest GR86 a couple weeks ago - brand new car with 50km on it. Best overall value on the market today for sure (well BRZ is even better but you know what I mean). Much, much improved across the board. The new 2.4 has made a huge difference - car no longer feels gutless through the midrange and still revs out nicely. Not fast by any means but hardly a slowpoke. Interior is much nicer than before. Great driving position, slick gearbox, even control weights.

If I was shopping for something new, I'd definitely consider one, even putting price aside. I also expect residuals to be strong so economically it's pretty hard to pass up.

I keep thinking about one of these to replace my 944 as a track car one day... but i'm not sure if that's an upgrade or a more lateral move.

Cheaper parts so cheaper running costs?

My two cents.Owned the 2020 GT86 - last year of the previous body, drove extensively the 22' GR86, and Track bRed on order for April delivery
22' GR 86 is the best bang for a buck out there by far. All the concern points with the original one 2.0 H4 are now resolved with the 2.4 H4.
Amount of torque increase is absolutely incomparable between the tow gens. Even HP gain is not just to say only 23 Hp more.
Dyno test shows =34% torque gain and 29% Hp gain at the wheels. That's massive.

Owned 981GT4, 2020 GR Supra.... They both are weapons on the Big Track, but useless in daily driving. Especially with Supra with that gangurtrian turbo kick in at low rpms. You are pretty much 1 second away from 50 km/h over speed limit any given moment you stomp on that pedal.

GR86 – so much more fun and being able getting closer to car upper end capabilities in a daily driving. And I am sure it will not disappoint on the Big Track as well – coming after 944T can only be better. DDT or TMP – it will be a blast

Excellent feedback Lemikson. Question for you. There are some nice supercharger kits out there for the pre-2022 BRZ, FRS and 86 - priced $4 to $6K CDN. These kits up power and torque nicely, even above the 2022 numbers. A very clean low mileage version of either of these cars can be had for mid-$20's. Would adding a kit like this to the 2.0 litre car(s) make it as good/better than the 2022 cars?

In your opinion that is.....

Thanks

vetfever,

There are anecdotal reports of owners on various forums where boosting the original 2.0L engines resulted in accelerated wear and tear and ultimately failure. Emphasis on anecdotal because the reports are far and few and ultimately a very small sample size.

I was originally interested in picking up the 2.0L but since COVID, prices sky rocketed and then after seeing the 2.4L I haven't looked back at the 2.0L. Food for thought, someone offered me a a last model year BRZ with low miles....for $45,000! As you can see, I am still here w/o an FR-S/BRZ and looking at maybe getting one as early as next year.

For around the cost of a 2-3 year old previous gen BRZ + supercharger kit and installation, you can get a new one with similar performance but the reliability and warranty of being a brand new unmodified car, and the other chassis/interior/styling updates/upgrades of the new car. In the current car market where lightly used ones are only marginally cheaper than new ones if at all cheaper, it was a no-brainer for me. Insuring unmodified cars is also much cheaper and easier.

Albeit it would take a few months to get one, the 2022 BRZ and GR86 price out at $42K and $44K respectively - that's all in, includes taxes, shipping, dealer prep - out the door....

The $45,000 guy is dreaming. They sell for $42K and $44 all-in. And that's for the upgraded models with leather interiors, nicer wheels, duckbill spoiler, etc....

I’m getting a base manual 2022 BRZ for $35.5k CAD all included (including HST, AC tax, etc).

I wish I were making this up but he was dead serious. He even got angry at me over PM saying that I flaked on him.
