Seems the 996 unit has some teething problems.

I think we may be waiting a while for 997.1 and 997.2 version. Personally need it for 997.2

Heck, I wouldn't mind an OEM solution for my 981. CarPlay is super handy although its not a big deal to use my phone when mounted when needed. Most times its in my pocket or the glovebox.

Lots of info. I will be doing this, this summer. Approximately $1100 installed. I have Bose, so CDR31 head unit. Different module for PCM.

Love to get your impressions. I have an 2011 Cayman S - w/ nav and Bose so it would work with mine and would like to keep this stock not that it should matter given that I have modded a few key areas on my car. Other than the car play issue on my stock unit I am ok with it and perhaps a back up camera would have been appropriate which this manages to address both. LMK how it goes... Tks !

I have a 997.2 and am also wanting a PCCM upgrade. The connectivity to my IPhone is the one thing that is weak in the car. It’s ironic that my ‘12 911 is still under CPO warranty but it has a worse head unit than classics.

And while it’s under factory warranty you can’t install an aftermarket radio. It’s very frustrating.

There are many threads in the Touareg forums about this. Looks like it works decently but a major job to install as it taps into
a number oh harnesses.

Hey Greg, I have seen this before but I have been hesitant to go down this route. An aftermarket unit would accomplish the same thing but allow me to easily go back to stock when I sell. Loosing parking sensors would be a pain though.

Do you plan on doing the install on your own? if not, what shop do you have in mind?

Why can't PCM 4 just be a plug and play retrofit? That would be too easy right?

Installed it my 2003 C4S and it's brilliant! Very easy plug and play installation if you have a 2003+ vehicle with MOST.

Hi there. The nice thing about this upgrade is, it is stock. Meaning the stock head unit is still used. Just adding a some parts to add CarPlay. I see no reason that if needed, it could be reversed but not sure why anyone would do that?
For me to go aftermarket would be more of a pain and more $ as I have Bose, which adds a separate amp under the passenger seat. I'll probably do the install myself though I may chicken out.
