In case you missed it, December Pano reports annual operating costs for the Taycan to be $3,190! That's US$. This compares to $1,329 for the 911, $1,035 for the M8, $$1,253 for the AMG GT, etc. Not that anyone buying this expensive, short range mode of transport would care, but I though EV's were supposed to have lower operating costs to offset the exorbitant battery replacement costs?
I don't see how unless one goes to the track every weekend. I ordered and own a '21 Taycan and the maintenance guide states the first major service is brake system check at 6 years. Before then it's wiper blades and tires.
Short range mode? Hardly...
Those are not operating costs per se. They include warranty costs as well as routine service. I assume that the Taycan may have had a warranty recall during the period in question
At first I was wondering if they are including depreciation in that but if that was the case the M8 would be 5 times that. The first service at 2 years is free which includes a cabin filter and brake flush ($500?). Even if you bought the 3 year extended warranty for $6000, this would put the yearly cost over 7 years to be $860.
My electricity cost is looking to be around $30 per 1000km at $0.10 per kWh. I think my insurance was around $1300 for the year (less than my Macan was). Maybe they are using premium electricity.
20% of the American power grid is generated by coal, has the cost of coal gone up? in Canada about 9.5 per cent of electricity supply comes from coal, 8.5 per cent from natural gas and 1.3 per cent from petroleum.
Per https://www.nrcan.gc.ca/our-natural-...359#generation
3 years prepaid maintenance
6 year battery
5 year warranty
after 5 years, make sure you have saved…
I figure that I’ll just take the $ I would have spent on luxury tax for a new car and use that to fund the expected maintenance nightmare I am in store for.

Ha! My thoughts exactly when I picked up the R8.
On your 21 GT my guess is reliability is FAR superior to prior years, you will be pleasantly surprised.

have had car since May. 2500 Km and no real issues.
Lots of small annoying things that are irritating but that is what happens when you have drunk Englishmen hand building your car. My list for mclaren when I drop off for service next spring:A/C - hot air only. WTF. I didn’t buy a 911R
Side storage - hinge is broken
Window - passenger side window can’t be operated by passenger. Fun when no A/C
Navigation - doesn’t work but who cares
Front Tyre pressure low - not actually but sensor always says so

No AM radio - no blue Jay games for me
Rear plastic piece on back of car loose
Window and TPMS sensor are the only things that would bug me, for a McLaren your list would be a wish list for prior models.
I have never used Nav on any of my sports cars and didn't even know they came with AM radio...
