For those that do a bunch more track days than me, what are the latest helmet requirements? Does it still have to be Snell certified, or is DOT, etc. ok? I want to buy something that is ok for PCA/Apex/6th gear/ EA track days.
I live in the west end, and was going to go to JRP for a helmet. However, they started at $700+HST. When I bought my last Snell-rated helmet in ~2008, it was $150. If anyone has any suggestions on where to buy a reasonably priced helmet in the west end, I'm all ears.
I believe SNELL 2015 is the minimum now. There's lots of places you can buy from.
I'm in the East end of the GTA.
You should join PTN if you're not a member, free to join. Free Cruise's and lot's of meetups. Track Days. Etc. To join look for them on FB and ask to be added to the What's APP group.
Love your car. I have a 2002 X50 as well. I just got a new plate for the car.

Reason: left some information out.
The HJC CL-17 is Snell M rated and is around $220 at Royal Distributing. By far the cheapest Snell helmet on the market and is very popular in go karting.
I don't think 2010 helmets will be accepted after this year. Here is the link to the PCA UCR website for their standards. Note that the description was really written in 2018 so the Snell date references to 2010 and 2015 should now say 2015 and 2020 https://pcaucr.org/driving/driver-ed...lmet-standard/
Thanks. Sounds like I could get away with Snell M-series, but potentially not at tracks outside of Ontario, or alternate clubs. Looks like SA2020 is the way to go.
I purchased my last helmet at Performance Improvements on Advance Rd. in Etobicoke. They sell Racequip helmets. Brad at Braiden Tire has a wide selection of helmets. He has an outlet at Mosport. Pre-Covid he used to rent helmets.
Thanks guys. I went with an SA 2020 RQP helmet from a store in London Ontario called performance unlimited. They had the best pricing, and I couldn't find any other place within a drive able distance. Although, I see someone suggested a place in etobicoke, which I would've tried.

Great service. That's what/where I bought mine for a local PCA track event. With the time zone difference (Victoria BC) they received my order late in the day, yet made sure to ship it out that same day. Turns out back in the 80's I owned a house a few blocks from their Etobicoke location.
Yep agree with the above,,, the old saying . you pay what your head is worth...
Higher price doesn't mean a better/safer helmet. Helmet rules and testing procedures are so loose around the world that price has nothing to do with it how safe they are. There should be one standard for all helmets. The fight between DOT, Snell, SA, FIA, etc. is stupid.
My understanding is that in a street car (with airbags), you want an open-faced SA2020 helmet. Paying more for a closed face helmet, or for more features (audio, drink attachment, cool paint, etc.) would have negligble or opposite benefit. Is there a health difference between my $300 Racequip helmet and the $500-$700 ones? Maybe. Maybe not.
