Why do I even own this car
When I bought my Spyder, I had a travel trailer but no dog. Managed to put almost 7k kms on it in the first year of ownership.
Got my dog and the next 2 years combined, I have put about 5500 kms on it.
I keep going back and forth as to why I even own this thing, other than nothing out there could replace it at a later date anyways, will I miss it if I sell it, or will I just think at least someone else is enjoying it.
I dont even think it has 28k kms on it yet.
Thats it, just writing my thoughts down.

My dog isn't allowed in any car other than my Durango. He is happy about that .He loves the Durango seats. He is 65 pounds and has a big ***. Its not your dog keeping you from driving the car.

I'll swap you my 911 - the dog will enjoy sitting in the back :-)

OP, that’s the most philosophical for sale posting I’ve ever seen.

I'm in the same situation. 6 summers. 18000kms. Should I sell, should I keep, should I sell, should I keep.

Racer
I was the same way with my first Porsche, an '06 Cayman S. Had a 80lb Doberman who would go to work with me. I'd driver her out in my S4 Avant in the morning and then drive home in the afternoon and head back in the Cayman. Dont get me started about trying to take the wife out for dinner when theres teenagers involved (pick me up, drop me off...) Owned that car for 18 months and barely did 3,000km. It wasnt the right time but it planted the seed. Now the kids are grown up and moved out, the dogs 30lbs and sleeps all day so she doesnt notice me leave...the wife however....

Drifting
I’m in the same boat
2016 GT4 with 9k km on it.
I never drive it either. I love it and love driving it, but I have no use for it either. It’s a rare day when I’ll choose to go for a drive instead of ride bikes in the woods, so it sits. The oil changes each year pull out what looks like brand new oil!
I’m keeping it regardless. Too good to sell. The perfect car. hopefully you don’t need to justify why you have yours either.

If it makes you feel any better, Im in the same boat as well.
I always would laugh at the lame excuse, when someone lists the reason for selling their sports car as "I just dont drive it enough." And now the joke is on me because Im starting to feel that exact way. Not that I cant go drive it more often, but I would rather spend my available free time and money with the family doing something we all can participate in, like camping or mountain biking. In many ways, the owning and driving the 997 is a expensive, selfish, solo experience.
If I had lots of garage space at the house and lots of money, it wouldnt be an issue. But, that is not the case. Selling the car will save me the hassle of having to have a safe place to park/store it all the time, as well as ongoing money on insurance and maintenance. And the fact that these cars seem to be in high demand at the moment (i.e. top $$$,) isnt helping my argument to keep it.
I thought the 997 would be the one car I would never, ever, sell. But, I guess I am getting older and consider different things important.
My biggest concern is that I will sell it, and then end up just buying another cheaper sports car with half the money from the 997. In my case, that would be a huge waste, since my car is heavily modified, and Im sure I would end up modifying the cheaper car, and lose a ton of money in the process.
Oh well....first world problems ...LOL
