I spent my first 16 years in a communist country and visited other communist countries but never once seen this. Did this happed to them during WW2?

In any state as such, you are to have identification on yourself at all times. You must show it when asked.

Yes but the ID-ing must have only happened when it was necessary for police to know who you are. Not that much different than here today. It wasn't like when the Germans were occupying the country during WW2.

False false false false. There is no law or requirement to carry ID in Canada, there is no national ID card either. All you need to provide to the police is your name when asked. That is all. Health insurance cards and Drivers licenses are accepted as defacto ID. You only need to carry a driver's license when driving a car not walking down the street. Health insurance card only needs to be presented at a hospital or clinic.

The whole thing is a far cry from what it once was.

The original H20i car meet was held on a private property and I think later a fairground in Ocean City, MD. Jay Shoup was the organizer. It was a VAG (VW/Audi) centric meet for the water cooled VW owners (Golfs/Jettas etc.) because the aircooled guys always had their own meets/shows and the newer stuff wasn't usually welcome. The show grew each year from a couple hundred cars to eventually having to move locations to accommodate thousands.

As it grew, other immature car guys started to latch onto the event in Honda Civics and other marques. They'd go to Ocean City Maryland and cause a bunch of ****, take over the strip with partying and burnouts/donuts, separate from the show grounds. This gave the H20 "official" show a bad rep. As years went on the pilgrimage got bigger, Canadians would go down to it and Shoup eventually abandoned organizing the official H2Oi show at all. So it switched from an organized VW water cooled car show with trophies/prizes to just a bunch of immature guys from all over North America trying to out do each other. The car owners started out-doing each other with stupid amounts of camber and other stuff. It became a clout-fest for instagram followers.

Anyway, they've piggy backed off the original show, refer to it by the same name when it has nothing to do with the original show. The gathering in Wasaga was just because they couldn't cross the border to go to Ocean City this year. So they decided to do the same antics just north of the border instead.

It's a shame that they tainted Shoup's original show that he put a lot of effort into organizing every year and he tried to keep the reins tight on it.

Thats probably because I am not talking about Canada. Please read the above post. I was talking about past communists states, and how that is NOT required in Canada.

Hence the whole notion of police requesting ID is ridiculous.

true .. you need to be able to self identify if asked by an officer..

a cop buddy of mine says half of the drunks walking down the street they take in are charged with not being able to self identify. lol

Two sides to every controversy. Good for the local economy that was shut down for the only 4 months there is any revenue. Wasaga has always been a big drunken party for kids btw, who will get sicker from the booze than any flu. As far as locals are concerned, they're like suburbanites that move in beside a pig farm that's been there for 150 years. If ya don't like the stink, live somewhere else.

WRONG, WRONG, WRONG!!!
Wasaga is summer tourist town that offers allot of relaxation and joy to families, couples, and young people alike from all walks of life coming from the surrounding area as well as the GTA. Every tourist area and entertainment district no matter where has to unfortunately deal with drunken adults and kids to some extent.
However, the Wasaga Rally was an uninvited, inexcusable, senseless, dangerous, selfish organized gathering of dumb stupid young and older adults that had total disregard for their own safety and health as well as that of their loved ones at home who would now be potentially exposed to Covid. The two are not even remotely connected.
