$21 for 1 kph over?
This is what "big boy pants" comes up with?
This has nothing to do with safety and everything to do with generating revenue.

“And it couldn’t come too soon”.

Once people accept that type of statement you’ll be doomed. It used to be political suicide to propose photoradar, now they’re trying to flip it.

It will get rolled out in a limited capacity out here in Vancouver too, but only in specific intersections and school zones, at least to start. But the difference is that we also have radar detectors that can detect them.

"The cameras will be located in school and community safety zones, such as around seniors facilities."

Assuming this is the case, it doesn't seem like a terrible idea.

This and the lower of speed limits to 30km/h in residential neighborhoods will make everyone, even the ones that want this, into criminals. Wait until they start getting tickets too and their tone will change. Roads and streets need to be designed to comfortably travel at the speed limit and not just install photo radar. That's the lazy way.

Edmonton now for 6-8 years have had these, It’s a great idea. Will safe life’s and injury’s! When your clipping 100-150km in a 50km zone, your a immature no respect for lives individual . I owe sports cars and do enjoy ripping it up once and then in the 911 and 68 Firebird but there’s a place and a time for all that. And streets where our kids and seniors are present, it is not the place...

They are already using a speed control measure in Toronto: pot holes and crooked man-hole covers! Our roads have never been as bad as they are now. When Ford got elected I was hoping he'd start getting the roads fixed. I can't believe he is agreeing with Tory on radars.
And about road safety. We also need to educate our citizens about dangers of crossing roads while holding their smartphones in front of their faces. And just because a pedestrian has the right of way, doesn't mean s/he should step onto the road without looking both ways.
Its very easy to blame drivers for these fatalities but I've seen many cases of pedestrians doing absolutely idiotic things.

The whole "school zones and senior areas" sounds great on the surface, but remember these zones are 30km/h at all times. If they are charging for even small overages, that is crazy. It's 10pm. No kids in site. Big ticket for doing 40 km/h? This is a money grab.

Put in speed humps around schools if you want to slow people down.

What are your kids doing in the middle of the street?

Or only have lower speed limits before and after the bell rings. The funny thing is that the people that are speeding in those school zones when school is in are the very parents that are complaining about the speeding.

“pedestrians doing absolutely idiotic things” absolutely your right and that’s part of the problem also.

I for one have never seen seniors crossing streets while on there phones. Younger generation? You bet you, all the time . Number one cause for deaths and injuries is speed. Lack of suitable time to react . It’s a old saying I’m been hearing all my life “speed kills”

we have a ring road up here in Edmonton (100km/hr) . It’s great for taking the 911 out for rips. Up to 200km/hr and in and out of the overpass Ramps ( at a slower seed of course lol) are lots fun. I’m guilty of speedy at a dangerous amount yes but no pedestrians are at risk. A place and a time

Been around here a while and I got my first tickets 2 weeks ago.

62km/h in a 50km/h. You know when you are going 50 km/h and you see a 70 km/h sign coming up 100 metres away.... you tend to slowly accelerate to be at 70km/h by the time you reach that sign.... Don't anymore. If you are over 50 km/h before that sign.... you're efd.

Machines, sensors and cameras lack common sense and so do a lot of people but that's another subject.. and as soon as you are over their set limit... flash!!!! They got you.

Don't be fooled by the pilot project lies, when they see the huge cash cow pooring money in, they will quickly become permanent and all over the place.
