There is essentially nobody in NL that will be able to give you a decent PPI on a Porsche.
Because of this and the geographic location it tends to leave porsches on the lower end of resale in that province.
If you are a new to porsche buyer, i sugguest you buy the best you can afford. And stay away from modifications. Have a dealer PPI the car.
If you buy something without a PPI, it better be a low enough price to cover any issues not detected during the sale.
The 996 Turbo with 1000hp heavy modifications was built by a known mustang builder in the province from what i can recall. He is good, It is his first porsche however as he is not a porsche tuner.
Anybody who knows Porsches and turbos will tell you that the stock case cannot handle that much boost without internal modifications. Bent rods are famous in 996 and 997 turbos that have too many mods on stock case. I wouldnt let just anybody open a porsche case IMO.
The reality is that the car is over modified and is not something you could daily drive reliably. It is a hobby car for somebody looking to burn money and do a little drag racing inbetween trouble shooting.
The car could be a good value if returned to stock however. But the owner is so upside down on it that he will need to come to terms with it at some point and drop the price or turn it back to stock.
Even with all the money pumped into it for mods, it is worth less then a stock Turbo.

Porsche mechanic St. John's
This message is for Targa Paul:
How would one get in touch with the 'Old school mechanic you mentioned?

There is an old school mechanic here that works from home now. He worked all his life as a professional mechanic on Volvo's, MB's, BMW's and Porsche's. Use to do crew for some of the Targa Newfoundland Porsche's. IMHO he is the best Porsche mechanic on the island. If you proceed with it I'm sure he would look at it for a fee.........but I don't think the guy that owns it is going to take it to a mechanic and let him poke around????
