Default Licence Plate Security

Hi Folks,

I discovered the front and rear license plates on my Boxster were stolen over the weekend and has been reported to Toronto Police since the discovery.

I'm a bit paranoid right now as I fear this may happen again. Is anyone aware of any security solutions like locks or special screws that attach to the factory mounting plates? Please let me know, and thanks!

I feel like even if you "locked" these, the person stealing them would just rip them out harder. possibly doing more damage to bumper cover, etc.

Maybe get a custom plate. Stands out more than generic numbers and letters. Possibly less likely to be stolen?

If they were custom plates, then this is probably a kid or some souvenir collector. If they were just regular plates, then they're planning on using them on a stolen car. I agree with the others, any lock system will cause more damage if the thief is determined to get your plates. Maybe invest in an outdoor security camera aimed at your driveway?

I bought license plate security screws at Cdn Tire a few years back as I've had trailer plates stolen twice.

Get a custom plate that says STOLEN and you're virtually guaranteed that they'll never be

These were not custom plates. They were just your run of the mill Ontario plates. I think I'll have to invest in a dash cam or some kind of security camera of some sort. I'm a bit annoyed by this incident.

I went to see that kit earlier this evening. Turns out it wont' fit the standard Porsche mounting kit. I had to bite the bullet and just buy regular stainless steel screws. Crossing my fingers this incident will be a one-off, otherwise, I'm storing it off-site for the season.

What does your plate say and what area do you live in?

I think the odds are better that they will steel your cat before your plates.

If youre storing it why not just take the plates off?
