I did not. Maybe tomorrow when I'm on my laptop.

There have been a couple car fires on the 991 Forum. Rare occurrence.

Why do you think this is a warranty claim? Might be. But want to hear your reasoning.
The car is covered by the extended warranty which expires November 2018.

Astern was windward at the time of the fire. I was hoping to let it cool and move it into the adjacent parking lot but didn’t have enough time.

This is unfolded very quickly.

It sure looks like a defect in a part or workmanship resulted in a fire. How is this not under warranty assuming the car wasn’t in an accident. They should at least look at the car and determine the cause before telling you to use your insurance.

just what thought. Guessing it’s a different deal in a catastrophe.

You may have already done this, but have a discussion about this with your insurer. Often the way it works (as has been mentioned) is your insurer takes over the loss and gets you back to baseline as quickly as they can, then they subrogate the damages from the third party. This should have zero effect on your premium or history with your insurer. I just went through this with a house fire caused by our power utility. The bonus is that your insurer (at least in my case) treated me like gold, as they were not concerned about controlling costs, as they would get them all back. It's also MUCH faster to settle this way than you trying to fight with the third party.

Really sucks though. Glad you and your family were all safe.

How long was the car out of winter storage (time/km) when this happened?

I'm confused. What does warranty have to do with it?
Wouldn't a CarBQ just be an insurance claim and then if a known defect or recall, the insurance company would pay you out and chase Porsche?

At this point, since nobody knows what caused the fire or oil leak, how can blame be assigned? What if an unscrupulous person played a practical joke and let a hose loose? The point is, until research can be done, how is blame assigned?

Now, the reality is, the cause might not ever be known.

Also, while it’s true that you might have to claim Insurance on this one for a speedy recovery, you might not get your security deposit back until the insurance company can place blame on someone else and recover those funds.

At this point, I get that you are angry, but bad things happen no matter what anyone does to prevent them. Glad you and your wife are OK.

My sympathies.
Based upon your pictures and the condition of the burned vehicle, I'm not sure anyone would be able to determine the cause with certainty. It may be strongly suspected that an oil leak or fuel line failure was the cause of the fire. However, if that can't be proven with certainty, I don't see Porsche accepting a defect as a cause and covering it under warranty (UNLESS there is a trend of these fires happening, in which case a root cause can probably be determined).

Sir5n - Any story you can tell, is a good story.

This is just stuff. I'm assuming you have full insurance and coverage.
I kind of understand your, who blame thoughts? But really? You're making more work for yourself.
Your pissedness will subside with the passage of time.
Sorry to hear of your loss.
Insurance will pay you out. They will decide fault, and go after who they need. This is out of your hands.
Get a settlement from your provider. You may not have to accept their first offer. Get it in writing.
Get out your policy. Does it have an agreed upon value in there?
New tires on the car? Recent repairs on the vehicle? Full tanks of gas? Are possibly negotiable.
Destroyed coat? May have to be picked up by your house policy. But I don't know...

Here is a good synopsis. It is from the US, but is substantially correct for Ontario.

With your accident beginning of April I think you might have a tough time getting the dealer to cover on warranty. How can you prove the reported damage done didn't result in the fire?

Both your insurance company and dealer will do a search for any accident history. I'd just work with your insurance and get them to fight the battle.
