Good move Pel. Certainly ypu wont loose any money on this and you will have alot of fun. If you are Auckland based and have an appetite for track work consider applying for Rennsport Gruppe membership where you will find a number of other 964 owners....tell us more about your car when you have a deal....

EDIT: Just rechecked your original post so if its the white one there's plenty of detail there. If its only done 25k post rebuild then I wouldn't worry too much about the mileage though the suspension & clutch should also have been overhauled in that time. There will be a few other things that need to be done but there's a pretty good community of experience here who have done most of the usual things and can advise.
My manual C4 is now for sale - NZ new and 120km but no rebuild and not in need of one. I have a potential buyer and there's no rush so I'm not advertising it at this stage. But if you want a comparison then drop me a pm and you're welcome to take a look - if only to confirm that you're making the right call.

Hi Guys
Thanks for the input!
Just got the PPI back, problems are
- A/C not cold
- Brake discs front and rear just under size
- Slight oil leaks from left and right hand side of engine, possible cam covers
- L/H centre dash vent blocked
- Small crack in front headlight lens
- Hall sensor fault in engine management system
- Boot and bonnet struts starting to get a little weak
I have dropped him from 40k to 30k, at this money I feel it's a good buy. Thoughts???
Cheers

Is this a tipo?
Bank on 2K for discs all round.
Oil leaks standard for 964 they come at no extra cost.
Struts, headlight lamp and other cheap to repair (under $800 parts).
Air con if its condenser big money as fuel tank nbeeds to come out - bank on 3.5-4.5K with labour.
Hall sensor. This needs further check for cost as its either really cheap or really expensive and I cannot recall but time to dissy too and leads perhaps.
As others will say expect to drop at least 6-10 large on it to get it right in first 12 months....

Macca, you're scaring the man,
Here's another set of thoughts.
Air con, not that great when working properly. Open the window instead and listen to the engine.
Discs, yes expensive but as a weekend car you may never replace them again
Bonnet and hood struts. Use a piece of wood
Headlight glass $100 for a new one (the whole unit is $700)
Vent blocked ?
Oil leaks - they all do it.

Macca I chuckled at the oil leaks call. I have to admit it I look at that Gt2 in Palmerston North and wonder...
John, thanks for the positive outlook, I actually needed it.
Im going to spend the money needed on maintenance and commit to the 964 I think. It may not be as fast or carry the same cache as a GT2 but im sure the smile factor will be just the same.
No one said owning a classic car was cheap especially a Porsche.
Regarding the brakes, ive read on the main NZ forum the 964 brakes are a wee bit underdone, if im replacing the disks should I keep them factory of look at another option?

Many of the 964s at the track run good fluid and a number of different pad combinations. I don't think anyone has gone with drilled discs or bigger ones. The best drivers are sub 1:20 at HD. Doesn't seem that brakes are a significant limitation.

Pel. You will not regret the 964 and in fact it will make up in appreciation over time what you likely spend in maintenance and the smiles are for free.
Actually I disagree with John, I think the 964 brakes are universally agree to be under done unlike the 993 where they are big in caliper, pad surface area, disc size and also ventilated. But you will never know this till you go to the track and puush hard. Anyone with a 964 at HD getting 1.20 or under has different fluid and race pads (and still have intermittent problems). That includes the guys Johns refers to.If in doubt by my 993 brake system when I sell it in April next year LOL!
Most of all it seems the main things cost wise you need to get a fix on are the air con (3.5-4.5k worse case) and the dissy. I recall reading if you need teh full dissy assembly including hall sensor can run 1000+ USD used. Best to check on 964 first and make sure Im not smoking pot....
Otherwise buy it, join a select group of connoisseurs and enjoy!
