I think my fastest time ever is 1.19.15. But this is with me driving. Steve may well be a second quicker?? A 993 is as quick as a 964 c2, so may only be a 1.18 with tires and suspension sorted??
BTW: I think we need a finer measure and Steve's driving best represents the 0.1 second increment, so 1 Steve = 0.10 seconds, 1 Macca = 2 Steves and 1 Dave = 10 Maccas. Right now I need to find 1 Dave and 6 Maccas. The Steves will come later. |

What was Steve's best time in your C4? I'd like to know what he could do in mine to understand my potential improvement before resorting to the slippery slope :-) I can just see us relating cars differing performance in terms of plus and minus a steve or two LOL
Whatever the limit, the clear point for me is that the biggest impediment to fast times right now is the driver, not the car. |

Left St Tropez today. Wind had dropped to nothing and weather was spot on, 14C but blue blue skies. Great drive to Avignon made better by the fact we took a wrong turn due to Tomasina and ended up on the A57 a 30km stretch (with no turn offs to re route) of deserted A1 grade tramac motorway smooth as a babies bum, 130kmph limit with a number of very long 2km+ straights. Joanna says shes never been to 200 kmph in a car and would like to hit the magic 200. I neglect to tell her we hit 210kmph on film on the autostrada a few weeks ago and nail it. It was in full aoto, kicked down form 7th to 4th and ran through 5th and 6th within a few seconds we had gone from our general cruising speed (150-155kmph - still haven't seen a cop on the road even after maybe 700km now on their autoroutes!) to 240 kmph and the car just hunkered sown and you could feel the aero gluing it to the ground. She bottles out about there but it was fun to get the car at that speed and see how she handled on good tarmac. Lets face it, apart from maybe the front straight of HD where the 991 GT3 may hit 240 kmph there will be bugger all chances to see mid 200s on NZ roads or motorways safely such are the state of the surfaces, traffic, incompetent drivers and nanny state rules...it has to be said if you want to drive fast and on some great roads you simply have to visit Europe!
Heres a few photos of the car with Jo after a wash before leaving the hotel this morning, a few gratuitous wheel shots and a picture of her in Avignon this evening after seeing the bridge and the Papal Palace. man the underground car-park there was fierce on lowered cars! I think I got some nice footage of a windy hill route through the Hill's north of St Tropez too - Ill see if I can find the time and bandwidth to process the files over the weekend.... |

I (in my naivety) would have expected the 993 to be quicker with its improved suspension design and other improvements. Or are you saying thatt after both are optimised for the track they're equal rather than factory spec
You are correct in saying that once optimised for the track both would be equal, as they have almost identical power to weight ratios. I would think both cars on coil overs would nuke the stock car suspension advantages of the 993. |
The 993 "optomised" in the right hands would be good for late 1.16s in the right hands IMHO. Lets say in this case "optomised" is to my 993 current spec. I have no doubt at all that this is possible on Z221.
If a stock street 993 has mild modifications including coilovers, sway bars, lowered, chip, airbox, exhaust, brake cooling ducts and LSD with Z221 it will be good for somewhere in the early 1.18s same driver as above. Im not sure what Pauls C3 with coilovers is capable in the above hands but lets say remove teh Z214s and replace with Z221s and I should guess mid 1.18s....so yes there would not be too much in it. As a point of reference you could look at Steves white RS car. That car is good for 1.20 flat at Manfield with its tits been driven off it. Take off two second for HD and youll get some idea... |
if macca is right better get into those long hoods quick. worry about the increasing value later cos any way its a good problem to have isn't it?

Auckland Domain hillclimb 1982.

Such a pity to see death bumps installed on the Domain road. Driving between my offices in the city and Newmarket used to be the highlight of my day.

A bit of a 993 fest this avo.
All cars happen to be NZ new manuals. (common as muck in Kohi) |

Nice to meet you today Mike.
Yours is a lovely car and a well sorted example. I am sold on the ride height and the ride quality. Cheers Paul |
