I leave them on- I use metal value stews as well. Protects value in my mind.

Track wheels I never use them, pain in the **** to take them on and off to adjust pressures

Nevada high speed run Silver State requires metal valve stems and caps with rubber o ring seals. Agree with caps on track cars.

Good, metal valve stem caps with seals are a safety measure, in the unusual event of valve stem core failure (or improperly reinstalled after tire mounting). Low probability events, granted, but good caps are cheap and simple to get and install, so why not have them?

Metal caps get damn not so they never get put back on.

This. Also, the cheap plastic ones can melt. So -> none.

The benefit of leaving cap on, after sideways in the grass or gravel, don't have to dig out and clean the valve stem.

i left them on for many years, thinking it was a last protection device for leaks... very liberating a few years ago just junking them for the track.
