To me Seneca Lodge is part of the character of the Glen. Unless bringing the wife, Seneca is the place I choose. Clean but '50s rustic.

When in the tavern/bar @ Seneca lodge....ask to see "the finger".
Interesting story behind that one. All part of the Glen experience.

Because they're 30min away?

Really, there are tons of places to stay right on or near the main drag (Franklin Street) in the Glen, and also on Rt 14 leading into town.

Seneca Lodge is sold out.

Falls Motel is sold out.

Harbor Hotel is $350/night. That will bring the hotel total to $700-$1000+.
No wonder people bitch about the cost of track days when they stay at resorts.

Can you name a few (that aren't $350/night) ?

The colonial Inn (they have a small bar and are walkable to everything)

The Budget Inn (right across from the supermarket and gas)

this past weekend we stayed at the Seneca Clipper for the AER race. Never been before. Nothing special, about 10 rooms, simple, but clean, cheap and right on the main street across from one of the ice cream places.
WiFi actually worked fine. Would stay again.

We've stayed at the LongHouse - which was pretty nice (for the Glen), Anchor Inn, which has a great Tiki bar right across the street on the lake and a nice balcony outside all the rooms, a few B&B's, Glen Motor Inn and Falls Motel. Never did Seneca Lodge...yet....

I've done that - good availability and cheap. Texas Roadhouse right there if you want to wake up at 3am and drink a gallon of water.

If you want to live in luxury the Harbor Hotel is worth the $$.

I stayed at budget inn . Room was nice and right next to Glen Dairy Bar if you're a teetotaler. Not saying it is the nicest but if everything else is sold out consider that as an option.

I'd be amazed if the Budget wasn't sold out--usually one of the first to fill up.

Besides the Harbor, the hotels in and around Watkins Glen are meager, modest, or worse. There are plenty of nicer hotels that are 30 minutes away either in Horseheads or in Corning. Lots of choices. But, as others have said, they are 30 minutes away. I've stayed in a few of them and the drive really is not so bad. Corning is a great little city with some fine restaurants and a good museum worth visiting.

The Corning glass museum is indeed a pretty cool place.
