I remember two years ago SCCA was talking hard about letting 3.6 L engined porsches i.e. 993, 964 to start running GT-2. Was jazzed to be able to go national with Cupcar but they quickly put the kabash on it. I hope you get there but I'd be surprised if you don't stay in GT-1.

I think the going rate for renting a seat in a Cup car is $1000-$1500 per race hour. So $25K sounds pretty high, given there will have to be 2 or 3 additional drivers for a 24 hour race. For that kind of money he better have a really nicely stocked motor home with some Hawaiian Tropic girls around or something.

Your figures seem low from what a friend found in GAC. For a race like Mid Ohio the prices were around $5K for a ride in a Firebird or a Acura RSX. With a damage deposit equal to at least that amount.

If TPC rents for anything in that range I need to have my friend call them.

Another friend who has a pretty good pro racing history raced with TRG (in a ALMS race) and it cost him $25K for a seat in Buckler's car. They won the race at Mid Ohio even over the factory GT teams and guess what the price of his next race was? $25K (which he didn't do).

The motion to allow cup cars in the SCCA GT2 class has been passed and takes effect 1/1/04. Here is the blurb from www.scca.org web site.

MOTION: To accept the GT2 proposal for 2004 which includes the following items: reclassification of the Panoz GTS to GT2, reclassification of the Porsche Cup car into GT 2, classification of the peripheral port 13B motor into GT 2, allow new motors to be classified for use in older chassis’s. These changes are effective 1/1/04.

Last year the average going rate was an approximately $40,000 seat. the cars last year were GT3RSs. I would imagine that this year, even with GT3 SuperCups being eligible, the price wouldn't be that different. The car still has to be completely re-done after the race, both engine and transmission, bodywork, etc. You need a complete trailer of spare parts, crew, fuel, tires and don't forget about the practice days in early January.

It ain't cheap.

So what happens when the car gets stuffed into a wall in the first hour or the motor quits and you never get into the car during the race... still have to ante up?

Most contracts read that you will get MAYBE a % of your money back, but not all. I do know that once you sit in the car, even if it is just for one session, you get nothing back.

Thanks Jim, I learn something new everyday. Looking forward to Sebring, I may be doing my first race in F and the enduro with Dad after three years of DE there.
... as the car has yet to sell. But if it does sell, you know we'll be at Rennsport with something even better!

I think Rennsport is only open to Porsche factory built cars. You can buy my Supercup and race Daytona during the event!

Are you kidding or just a ploy to sell your car?! James Redman told me the Daytona race would be a similar format as past rennsport events, meaning club racers, vintage and exhibition classes.

When I talked to our Zone rep at the October Fest, he told me that there will not be a PCA Club race associated with the Rennsport Reunion. He said that there was some carnage at the Lime Rock reunion and that wouldn't be tolerated at Daytona. He also said that Bob Snodgrass has helped Porsche gain access at the track for this event and Bob is not a supportor of PCA racing.

Just what I heard.

That totally wrecked my day! The carnage at the Lime Rock event was all HIS cars. PCNA president wrecked their 962, a vintage klub sport 911 ran into Paul Newman in one of their 914s and a Kremer one off car wrecked coming up the uphill on the testing day. However, I appreciate you sharring that news. Any thoughts on the vintage cars being allowed, as we run our car in the vintage groups in Redman's event as well... but it could be only "real factory race cars" as you said.

I wonder why Bob Snodgrass doesn't support club racing. I met him at the Jeff 500 and seemed quite full of himself. I know one thing for sure, aside from the 962s at the LRP event, the Club Racers put on a heck of a better close racing show than the vintage boys. I can prove that just by the fact that my dad, not a hard charger in the least, beat more than half the field of 300hp RSRs. I guess thats why he wants to go vintage racing so bad. Yes, I know there is a huge difference between the top HSR crowd and some of the more gentlemanly racing in the SVRA.

Just got an e-mail from James Redman. You were right about there being no PCA run groups, however there will be groups for "all 911s" and such in which James says the PCA guys are more than welcome to run in. I'm not sure how the classing will work out though,
