Default NASA/SCCA 944 Spec racing in the Northeast?

I bought a 924S SP2 car and will be training with it all this summer and fall both with PCA instructors and pro-coaches. In addition I bought Skippy 3 day and 2 day racing schools with 40% discount coupons. Assuming my coaches say I'm ready what races would I be eligible for next season in the New England and Mid-Atlantic area. I assume they would be only NASA or SCCA 944 Spec races and not PCA. I tried to find schedules and I think I found the NASA list but I can't find SCCA 944 Spec racing

Can someone list this years races in NASA and SCCA and am I correct in my assumption that the combo of 3/2 day Skippy schools gets me a license that is good with NASA and SCCA? Are there other races for which I would be eligible and if so what would they be?

You need to take an accredited race school or participate in an SCCA school to obtain your Novice permit. In addition when you apply for your permit, you submit a physical exam from your primary doctor, a pic, and $125. The NP allows you to register for an SCCA race weekend. After you successfully complete three races (or at the chief steward's discretion) you get your competition license.

With those schools and the skippy certificate for $225 you can get SCCA Full Comp license once you get the physical etc. you can race in their regional races. NASA is a little more complicated but after you successfully run some SCCA you can just apply for both NASA and PCA. I am in the middle of that process now

We just bought an SP2 944 for my son and look forward to getting him into racing. I think the PCA DE program is a great way to ultimately make it into PCA Club Racing. The 924/944 fields are always good size

Thanks for the info everyone! Yes the goal is absolutely PCA, but getting there is I think quickest by starting with Skippy schools and SCCA.

Gary, The Skippy license is only good for SCCA regional races and not NASA? Also what SCCA races are available for 944 Spec that's what I'm having the hardest time finding. SCCA 944 Spec race offering as well as NASA or others. I'm sure they're listed in obvious places but somehow I'm not finding the listings or maybe I did but didn't realize it included 944 Spec.

In the SCCA, I think your 924 or a 944 would fall into the ITS catagory. Download a copy of the General Competition Rules (GCR) here: http://www.scca.com/pages/cars-and-rules

Thanks just found that myself. Also found what I was looking for at:

NER.org

My only question remaining then is what class. Like you point out it might be ITS , but the car is SP2 in PCA races BUT that is only because it has ballast added since it has a 1989 2.7l 944 Rothman engine in it. It doesn't really matter to me if I'm competitive or not in that class because I'm just interested in gaining experience so I can apply for a PCA Racing License next fall or spring 2018.

Now I have a plan so all I have to do is execute . Palmer in May, LRP in June, Thompson in July - all next summer.

He replied above . . . And I will be taking all the advice he can offer plus I'm trying to work out some coaching time with him as well.

Vito V.

Sadly he's taking a break from racing for a bit. Lucky for me!

No pics yet but then Vito has tons of video online plus Van Sv. Has some great in car video that shows him going back and forth with Vito. Really couldn't have asked for a better deal prepped car, trailer, spare engines and tranny AND 3 sets of Hoosiers!

Now to find a tow vehicle.

SCCA doesnt offer a 944 spec class here in the East. If your car is a SP2 car your only 944 Spec racing is with PCA.

.
And depending on the car specs, your SP2 944 may not be legal for SCCA ITS. All ITS 944's are legal for the 944 Cup/SP2, but not all SP2 cars are legal for ITS. Racing with SCCA is not necessarily the best or quickest way to go racing with PCA in SP2.

Obviously you are right, and I've learned more in the last 48 hours. Probably didn't need the Skippy school as it looks like I can meet the requirements to get admitted to a PCA school by this fall so racing with PCA next spring should be a real possibility. I would love to make the Lime Rock Sprint next April, that would be terrific. Just gotta put in enough track days this summer and fall. Probably didn't have to go with the Skippy school, but I don't think it will hurt and hopefully will be a big plus. I imagine the MX-5 is not THAT far off from a 924S
