Default Hoosier R7 break-in procedure

Has anyone tried the recommended break in procedure for the Hoosier R7. 4-7 laps slowly increasing speed and then letting them sit for 24 hours?

I usually take them out for a short 10-15 min session and then leave them for at least 24 hours. Not sure about the slowly increasing speed part, but I don't drive flat out when doing it. I have also used stickers in a race. Still not convinced it makes that much difference. Seems like it was a bigger deal with the R6s. The R7s already last longer.

I did it and I did see some improvement..they did not fall off in the race as quickly as usual. It's hard to do though, since you have drive so slow for so long. Anything to get an edge.

Break-in? Lol

How about go as fast as possible on first lap without knocking them of the rims?

Done that many times. I couldn't tell any difference in that compared to running them as stickers in the race. Bringing the temps up gradually was the key on the first cycle.

Bingo.

Same as with Pirelli DH slicks. Gradually bring them up over 3-5 laps...

You will get much longer and consistent life out of the tire if you follow Hoosiers instructions. Done it both ways and almost doubled the effective life of the tire. Going out and hammering them Is fine if you only want a day out of them, for the money go buy slicks you'll go faster for the same $$$...

If possible, yes. If not possible, at least break them in 1st session of the morning and then let them sit until the last session of the day if possible. As much "rest" for the compound as possible IMO

Lots of people. When i have the luxury I would break in a set on Thursday for Saturday and a Friday for Sunday.

I've worked with people who break in tires for the next race weekend that is a week or two away.

I have seen a solid increase in usable life of a few more heat cycles 15-20% or so.

Many tire manufacturers use very aggressive tread compounds for the Track & Competition DOT-legal tires they've developed for autocrossing, track days and road racing. And just like other high performance parts, these tires will provide more consistent performance and last longer if they are properly broken in. The first time Track & Competition DOT tires go into service is very important. All tires deflect under load and their tread rubber compounds repeatedly stretch and relax as they roll into and out of contact with the road. This stretching breaks some of the weaker bonds between the tread rubber molecules, generating heat. If new Track & Competition DOT tires are initially run too aggressively, too hot or too long, some of the stronger bonds will also be broken which reduces tire grip and wear. Putting new Track & Competition DOT tires through an easy initial heat cycle and then not running them for a minimum of 24 hours allows the rubber bonds to relink in a more uniform manner than they were originally manufactured. Heat cycling actually makes Track & Competition DOT tread compounds more consistent in strength and more resistant to losing their strength the next time they are used.

all i have to say, is i just bought my first new set , since 2001.... im going to do the qualifying as VR and others suggested.... gradually warm up to 3-4 laps and then hit it for 2, and come in. sit for 24 hours before the race, and i think that will be good for this investment.
