Break-in...thought it was just to put on car, use for 20 heat cycles and then toss.

Is there a reason why people aren't just paying the few bucks to get them HC'd by the dealer before they're shipped? I gladly pay the $60 for the convenience and the increase in durability and performance.

Great point! Anyone know if this is as good as DIY?

Also, you won't notice the difference until the last few laps of the race. I saw cars falling off and handling going away and I still had decent grip. Made up several spot just because of the longevity. That's worth doing it IMO.

We will pre-heat cycle for $15 each.

How effective is that compared to proper break in? Anyone tested the difference?

I did this, and I noticed I got about 4 more uses out of the tire than when I bought them trackside and ran them like I stole them. I now only buy them HC'd from tire rack. I think that they actually heat cycle them far more consistently than a normal driver can achieve. Yes, if you were out on the track alone you could probably achieve very consistent results, but throw some traffic in there and all of a sudden you are not doing a particularly uniform job. I think the professional race teams that heat cycle there own tires are more likely to have some "alone time" on the track than the average joe club racing their car.

again, ive heard doing it yourself is as good, but many dont have two sets of rims and tires to play with to do this conveniently at the track. if i was gettting read for a race weeknd with only one set of rims, i would pay that 15 dollars no problem. but with two sets of rims, i can qualify on them or practice, let them sit overnight and be in the same shape, with $60 more in my pocket afterwards!

Would this also apply to the rebadged "Continental" slicks from the tire series that are essentially Hoosiers?

Well, silly me. I thought HoHo break in was 2 corners. I've done the heat cycle and wait 24+ hours thing with R6s and never noticed much difference.

I would like to know this too - any quantitative data?

Damon - do you have any information/data of effectiveness of the TR process vs on track heat cycling?

We had special equipment manufactured to heat cycle our tires. We also monitor the tires during the process to make sure they get to the proper temperature to assure the rebonding will take place properly. We believe it does the best job to properly heat the treadcap uniformally all the way across. Combined with our 24 hour transit time allows for the tire to properly cure and be ready to go when you receive it.
