OMG yes
Pulling 20' v-nosed CargoPro enclosed (so effectively a 24') trailer with Cayman race car and 'stuff' inside, total weight being towed @6500 lbs.
2012 Ford F250 crew cab long bed diesel Lariat.
Love:
Long wheelbase; its super stable
Torque
Mileage (compared with gas)
Long range between fill-ups.
Much lower NVH than the 2008 and 2001 (duallie) that it replaced
The outside mirrors
Overall fit and finish and amenities of the truck
Having a truck in the family
A lot less expensive to maintain than some German cars I've owned
Not love:
It's big (but its supposed to be big) so when not towing (such as when Joanie is with me and goes off for the day in the truck - though my 5'1'' wife is kinda cute behind that wheel) it's too much
Takes forever to wax (it's big)
Expensive to buy
-
Basically I love it. For me the only alternative would be Trailex and an SUV, but for now I like the truck and decent sized trailer

WE have a 2016 Dodge Cummins 3500 Limited Dually. It replaced our 2004 Dodge Cummins Dually. It has more up to date electronics than I understand. It pulls like a dream and we have are pulling a 53' Featherlite. It rides better under tow.
Yes I have a CDL and a DOT number. If you are pulling any trailer having a GVW over 10,000#
for commercial purposes you must have a DOT # and a CDL...this includes arrive and drive owners
and landscapers. Going after the small business guys is an easy way for the states to cash in, and they are beginning to do it.

Yes.
2013 F350 long bed.
Not a dually.
Tows heavily loaded 28 foot trailer with ease.
Also equipped with gooseneck hitch which tows heavily loaded 44 foot trailer with ease.
Love it.

Had a 2007 Chevy Duramax pulling a 24' V-Nose Thule enclosed trailer, felt like it wasn't even attached uphills or down. Not big on using it everyday.
Changed to 2012 GMC Denali Gas, pulled well but nothing like the diesel. Better than the duramax as DD, but still a truck.
Changed to Trailex open and 500+ HP Mercedes ML63. Pulls it very well, no issues braking, very pleasant to drive daily.

Just got home from looking at a few used Diesels. Was towing my 27 foot enclosed with an Infiniti QX45 (big SUV) and have gone through a couple of transmissions in five years.
Borrowed my buddies 2006 Ford F350 and I could accelerate going up steep hills with the diesel engine.
Trying to get something in the next few weeks before track season starts up again.

2005 Ford Excursion Limited Diesel towing 8000lbs 24ft enclosed trailer. Very powerful and stable towing vehicle that is also very comfortable - hate they don't make the Excursion any longer and they are hard to find used. 13-14mpg towing is reasonable for an older diesel I think.

Going to go against the grain and say no. Strongly considered diesel, but in the end, it didn't fit my needs. I'm only hauling an open trailer, needed a family truckster, and the economics of the diesel just didn't work out. One particular need was for a newer family car as all the others were getting up in age. A newer diesel means $$$$, but they are nice vehicles.
The biggest problem with a diesel is the requirement for a 3/4 ton truck. 1/2 ton trucks these days are very car like in terms of ride and amenities. My wife and I compared a 2003 Ford Excursion diesel (F250 chassis) to a 2010 Ford Expedition and the difference was night and day. Didn't even make it around the block in the Excursion before the wife just flatly said "No".
While not hauling the track toy it is nicer to drive around town than a 3/4 ton diesel. When hauling the track toy, it does good enough.
All that said, I spent about $22K on a 2010 Ford Expedition EL with 70K miles on it. A diesel would have been considerably more to buy and maintain and less comfortable around town. However, I wouldn't want to haul an enclosed with the Expy. YMMV.

2000 Ford Excursion 7.3L diesel pulling an open trailer. Big (huge actually), tons of room inside for all my crap, barely know the trailer is back there except instead of 20-mpg I get 12-mpg. Comfortable but vague steering feedback on the highway - kind of just lumbers down the road. I switched to this from a VW Touareg and like all the torque and extra room.

I've done a lot of towing with a 2011 GMC Duramax, it's an incredible truck, puts my 2003 gas powered HD2500 to shame. Towing a single car in a 20-24 foot trailer you don't even feel it. I've towed a 20' 2 car stacker with it a bunch of times too, no problems. The stacker weighed over 7000# empty, we had two 2200# 911's in it, 4 sets of wheels/tires, a lot of fuel, tools etc. The duramax hardly broke a sweat despite all of the weight and horrible aero drag of the big box trailer. This includes climbing big passes in CA and NV heat. Really great truck.

2014 VW Touareg TDI. 3.6 litre motor with roughly 430 foot pounds of torque. As far as I'm concerned, does everything well including being a daily driver. Tows Cayman on an open Trailex.
